Jim was stationed in Ashiya from 1952 - 55 (aprox) He was a Aircraft Mechanic on the C119s and also played on the football team. I am trying to help Jim's family collect anything that might have his service number or anything that I can use to complete a records check. Jim's offical records were destroyed in the St Louis fire and we need this info to get a new DD214. He served in the 483rd TCW at Ashiya AFB Kyushu from July 1952 to July 1954. He had various assignments dealing with supply and loading C-119s. There was a huge flood in the city of Kyushu beginning in June 1953 in which he helped the local people. He also remembers pushing crates of supplies out the back of C-119's at night over Korea. SQ. 403RD (483RD) ABGP SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: AIR FORCE VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I worked as a writer and later editor of the ASHIYA BREEZE form the Spring of 1952 until returning to the States in the Spring of 1954. Part of that time was spent as sports editor. I remember flying with the 62nd Blue Barons on a mission from Ashiya to Clark AFB, Phillipines. We stayed at Clark one night and then headed back to Japan, but stopped a night on Okinawa because the crews were worn out. The whole squadron made the round trip without aborts.
