| JOHN THOMPSON wrote on September 12, 2000 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: 47TH TROOP CARRIER SQD SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: AIR FORCE VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I was in the 51st Air Base Gp at Naha, Okinawa when the Korean War began in June 1950. We were quickly called up and operated for a short time out of southern Japan until all C-46's were gathered up from the pacific and formed into the 374th Gp at Tachikawa, Japan. We soon went to K-14, Kimpo, Korea and remained there until we were run out by the Chinese in January 1951. We regrouped at Tachikawa and then went to join the 437th, a reserve group at Brady AB near Fukuoka. I had many good friends in the 47th Sqd and later the 83rd Sqd of the 437th. Keywords: Often called "Tommy". Crewchief and flight engineer on C-46D, 44-78270 at K14. |
