Comments: My father, Clyde L Falls Jr, served as a pilot w/ the 41st FIS from Sept 1958 to March 1960 in Guam. He later went on to fly the T-33, T-38, F-105 (13th TFS/14th TFS at Korat) and F-106 (318th FIS at McChord)were he was killed in when his plane crashed in 1969. Anyone with information, who may have known my father or who would just like to talk about their experience...please feel free to contact me!

Keywords: I was assigned to the Sky Rippers in 1956, while we were yet in Japan - Yakota Air Base. My principal duties were in the Orderly Room, taking care of the Personnel Records. When it came time, we were notified of our pending move to Guam in the Marshal Islands, South Pacific. We sent the aircraft maintenance crews out to Iwo Jima. They were to re-fuel the F86D's at the island. The planes were expected to get there with almost no fuel left, even though special wing type fuel tanks were added. The planes were then to proced to Anderson Air Base in Guam. We, the remaining squadron members, were to go on board a cargo plane, along with the dependents, and fly straight to Guam. So, Japan to Guam, 1956. After about two months on Guam, I was transfered to 7th Air Force (Advanced), where I stayed until 1958.

Information regarding Lt. Ray Dellinger

Comments: I am looking for information regarding the death of my brother, Lt. Donald RAY Dellinger, in 1957. Unexplained death. Missing for 13 days after motor scooter found. Parents were never notified of death and the Air Force was not going to return his body to US per his instructions. I have a lot of questions and have received assistance from Richart Burk.

My brother was a pilot and he flew the F-86D with the Hughes E-4 Radar Control System.

Any information would be appreciated.

Comments: Remember that during move from Japan, some F86D's answered 'emergency call' and filled rocket pods w/beer for ground crew at Iwo Jima. Also remember 'bailing out' some ground crew men because they forgot to take flight line badges with them during SAC alert. Don't remember a nuttier group of guys in the AF.

Comments: Looking for the aircraft symbols or emblems of hte 41st that was painted on the wings, and fuselage.

Keywords: The whole story of Andersen AFB can be gotten from "GlobalSecurity.org, Andersen AFB" on the internet. The 41st got there in august of 1956 and lasted until 1960 when the squadron was deactivated. We physically busted up the aircraft and parts. The squadron was replaced in 1960 by the F-102 Delta Daggers of the 5th and 13th Air force.

Richard Burt wrote on 2005-06-25 00:00:00.0

Comments: During the summer of,58 , I applied for the Pacific theater, hoping to go to heaven by getting assigned to a base in the Phillipines. As the USAF would have it, they sent me to guam. Controlled by the Navy, at that time, they still had 8 Japs from WW2 that they couldn't get ogg the island and were living in the jungle. i was repairing the radar with Joe Azara and was under a staff Seargent named Waddle. I am still looking for them as I have never found them since. The aircraft had yellow and white strips for ID's on the wings and belly, but nothing on the tail. The aircraft was getting older and the 104 Starfighter was coming in with solid state radar so we took sledgehammers to the aircraft and busted them up. I thought the squadron was deactivated as a lot of guys were getting early outs. I spent 3 years, 3 months and 23 days there and went back to the states about 5 months early and got discharged from active duty on Feb 1, 1960 at Travis AFB in California.Still looking for anyone , including pilots that were there then.

Keywords: Stationed on Guam in the 41st FIS from September 1958 through Feb 1, 1960 and looking for A/2c (E-3) Joseph Azara, chess buddy, from Chicago, Illinois.Worked on the radar systems on F86D's and F86L's on the flight line. Was a SAC base and we were attached.

Comments: If I remember correctly I joined the 41st FIS when they were at Johnson AB in Japan in 1954. They were equiped with same F86 they used over Korea prior to my arrival at the time. I moved with The 41st FIS and the Group to Yokota. Then when the squadron went to Guam I moved to Nagoya with the 39th FIS. I think the 40th FIS was deactivated at Yokota at this time. I still have copies of my military oders for various things with the names of lots of other people on them. Anyone interested send me email.

Comments: I was in the 41st from January 1955 to Drcember 1956. I was in the move of the 41st from Yokota AB to Andersen AFB, Guam in 1956. We spent some time on Iwo Jima as the F-86's had to refuel there. I believer that this was the longest overwater transfer of land based planes at the time.

I was on Guam when Lt. Charlie Fair (sp?) and navigator crashed over the Mariannas trench.

If anyone has questions about the 41st at this time send a note. Remember I was 19 years old and do not remember too many names.

I worked in the Jet Engine Repair section under MSgt. Bottecher (sp?).
