We flew about 28 bombing missions, as a crew, and I flew three additional missions with other crews in a "check ride" role. Steven Bedsole wrote on 1999-11-09 00:00:00.0
Comments: My father, Curtis Bedsole, was the crew chief on aircraft # 181. On the day it was shot down, aircraft #181 was the lead aircraft on a bomb run. The aircraft was hit and the crew, with the exception of the pilot and flight engineer bailed out and were captured. The pilot and flight engineer died in the crash. (These facts are second hand from my father's memory, and may not be completely accurate).
When I was a young boy my father said nothing about his experiences in Korea. I am now retired from the Air Force and a veteran of the Gulf War. The accounts of the first paragraph are the only accounts my father has relayed to me. I am taking him to Washington next July to visit the memorial. I would love to be able to get some history of this aircraft, what happened to the crew, or anything to give to him. He was very good friends with the flight engineer and I think the fact that he was killed on a mission my father was not on has haunted him all these years. When the memorial was first completed, I tried to get him to go but his attitude was that it was too late. My constant pushing has gotten him to agree to go next summer. I would gratly appreciate any and all help in this matter. I want the visit to be a special time for us both as father and son as well as two veteran. It is my hope that some of his ghosts will be put to rest and he can open up and let me know about his time at Kadena.
Best Regards,
MSgt. Steven P. Bedsole, USAF, (Ret)

I am looking for anyone who may have served with my brother, SGT. GEORGE
W. SUPPLEE JR. He was with the 307th Bm Wng/372nd BmSq. at Okinawa.
He was a Radio Operator on a B-29. He volunteered to go with another
crew, and the B-29 went down in the China Sea on Feb 1, 1952. A rescue
mission did not find any remains and a burial monument was place in
St. Louis,Mo. for the crew.
I was four years old when this happened and would like to hear from
anyone who had contact with him or the rescue mission. I am a Vietnam
vet and served nine years active duty Army between 1966 -1975.
I believe some of his Regular crew members names were, Lt. Lewis
Mcintre, Lt. William Snyder, Lt Garnard Jones, Cpt B. Mullins, Lt. John
Gooding,Msgt William Jenkins, Cpl Robert Bassett,Cpl William Given,
Sgt.Bruce Joyner and Cpl Clyde House.
The Crew that went down with him, I believe the names were Cpl Robert
Dugger Jr., Cpl Kenneth Lennox, Cpl Jimmie Pitt, Cpt HalSmith,
Lt Roy Tullius, Cpt Eugene Hoag, TSgt Wage Cook, Cpt Roy Sunstrom, Cpl
Mark Stedler, Cpt Marvin Tabor and Lt Charles Weeks.
Thank you for any response.

comments:
My father was declared missing while in a B29 bombing mission to Korea
in January, 1952. The Air Force Awards Department has told me they can't
award my father the Korean Campaign medal because they don't know if his
plane made it to Korean air space or waters and they can't find a
document that states my father was assigned to the Korean War.
They state they know he was assigned to a base in Japan, Okinawa. It is
not clear from the documentation I have, how close the plane was from
Korea when it dissapeared. I requested a copy of his military file two
years ago but have not received anything yet. I do have a letter from
then President Eisenhower stating that my father had died fighting in
Korea. The Air Force Awards area ignored this document.
The rule they cite is: The Korean Campaign medal is awarded to those
that "were assigned to combat in the Korean Theatre (air, land, sea)".
Since it is clear from my documentation that my father's plane was
enroute to a bombing mission in Korea, they should be no doubt that he
was assigned to combat in the Korean Theatre and that he deserves the
award. The government's logic is different. Please direct me to any
expert in Logic that could help me in writting a statement that will
convince the Air Force Awards staff of their faulty logic. I also have a
list of members of his crew. Maybe by finding out if those crew members
were assigned the medal, I could prove he deserves it too. I would not
know how to find relatives of those crew members.
I already seeked assistance from a local congressman, but it was of no
help.
The purpose of this is to request that a headstone be placed for my
father and I want all his medals engraved in the headstone. He received
the Distinguished Air Medal and other medals for his participation in
World War II. I thank you in advance for any assistance.
