Comments: Hello everyone

I am currently writing a book about speed record holders. One of them was Capt Joe Rogers. In december 1959 he established a new speed record with the F-106.

I know that Joe was an F-51 pilot during the war in Korea, 36th FBS, 8th FBW. His commander was Lt Col. William O Donnell.

Who can help me with more information about Whistling Joe Rogers career in Korea?

Thanks and Happy New Year

Researching 36th FBS F-86's Feb-June 1953

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Michael Perry wrote on 2007-04-05 12:33:16.0

Comments: My uncle (mother's brother) was Raoul P. Mouton Jr. He flew the F-86F Sabre with the 36th FBS out of K-13, Suwon, Korea, from Feb. 1953 until his death in a C-124 crash June 18, 1953. I got curious as to what the Bureau number of "Junior's" F-86 was and what name he might have given his aircraft. I've seen a lot of great websites on the 36th FBS and just had the honor and pleasure of talking to Lt. Col Jim James(Ret.)who was in Queen Flight with Junior in 1953. My research has led me to create a spreadsheet compiling 36th FBS pilot names, their aircraft Bureau numbers, and their aircraft names (if any, Col. James said he didn't name his Sabre). I will be happy to share this spreadsheet with anyone who is interested in the 36th FBS from 1953. If anyone can contribute names and bureau numbers of 36th FBS F-86F aircraft from Feb. to June 1953, I would greatly appreciate it.

Comments: I'm searching for anyone who knew or flew with my grandfather's brother 1st Lieut. Eugene Ralph Hansen. He served with the 36th Fighter Bomber Squadron based out of Itazuke AB in Japan. On July 7, 1950, he was on a mission flying an F80C over North Korea with several other guys and while strafing a ground column his plane was hit. He bailed out but his parchute was never observed to open. His remains were recoved in 1951 and returned to Fremont, Nebraska, for burial in March 1952.

Although the KORWALD Loss Indicent Report lists the tail number of his aircraft as unknown, someone has posted an "editorial comment" here on the website that it was 49-599. If anyone can help me confirm this information I would appreciate it.

I would love to visit with anyone who knew him, so if you did please get it touch with me.

Thank you ~ Matt

Lt.Griffon was captured and taken POW. He was shot down near Prague. There are plenty of pics and info about the aircraft's previous life as "Jersey Bounce III" but little or nothing about "Marian."

I wonder if anyone here can help or knows someone who can?

ANY help/information/stories would be great, as I was only 18 months old when he was killed and my mother remarried. She didn't talk about him much, so I need information to fill in gaps in my personal history.

I've visited the Jimmy Escalle Memorial Tribute page and found 2 photos of my dad. What a wonderful surprise.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Comments: F-80 tail number FT-817 was "my" aircraft from Oct. 1952 until Lt Glass was shot down flying it in Jan. 1953. I had painted on the nose " Joanie's Modeleer" and a bumble bee. I have lost the name of my crew chief. Does anyone remember the aircraft and crew chief's name? We had had some problems with engine surges before it was shot down, and the crew chief was afraid that it's loss was due to that problem, but that was not the case. (Glass was hit by ground fire.) He had worked long and hard on that aircraft and should be proud of his efforts.

Comments: I served as the crew chief of F-80 tail no. 777 until we received our new F-86's (I think in Feb. or Mar. of 1953). I' the guy who caused an uproar because I and my assistant (can't remember his name) were taking a canopy off my F-80 and shot the cartrage through the vertical fin. We had to salvage a fin off the wing commanders plane and for a while the 36th had a red yellow and blue tail fin. If you are familiar with this story, would like to hear from you. Comments: Would be interested in hearing stories from Flight line personnel who served with the 36th FBS from around March '53 to the end of the war in July of '53.

My uncle was an F-86 pilot in the squadron who became MIA and I've had the distinct privilege hearing from his fellow pilots, and would now like to hear the perspective from those who maintained the F-86Fs as well as those who loaded the bombs and ammo onto the planes. My uncle, in his letters, spoke highly of those who took care of the aircraft and spent lots of his free time on the flight line learning from them.

Also, I have a website about my uncle with colored photos of the 36th FBS on it. There are a couple of photos in which I don't know the names of the enlisted personnel and thought that maybe someone who served on the flight line could identify.
