I wish to correct two errors of fact that were made in an entry on Sunday 3 August 1997 about my father, Major Thomas M. Sellers USMCR. He shot down his first and second MiGs on 20 July 1953 (not his second and third). He received two DFCs and one Silver Star (not two Silver Stars).

Thanks for any input, and especially the time frame.

Thanks,

Dear Hal,

I just ran across the "Project" on the net and thought I'd pass on the fact that I was with the 336 (Rocketeers) Squadron most of 1952 stationed at K-14 Kimpo.

More importantly, I have in my hands a yearbook-type publication that all members of the 4th Wing put out (picturs, names, trivia) covering July and August 1952.

I saw a couple of info requests that came through on the net (Colwell & J.K. Johmson) but could find neither name in the book..so they must've been with the unit before or after the above period.

That's about all I have on my mind for now, but would be pleased to hear from you should my subject book be of any help to anyone as far as names or what have you. Do you perhaps have any contact with individuals in the 336th that I may've served with ?

Give us a shout !

Regards,

Dave Glezen

Comments: Going to the mess hall at Kimpo one day we saw this MIG 15 had landed and was turning into an alert parking area and was surrounded by MP Jeeps with machine guns trained on this MIG. My fried with me had a camera and took some pictures. An MP say us and ran over demanding to have the film. My friend was real amart and palmed a new roll of film out of his pocket and exchanged it with the roll in the camera. When the MP stood in front of us my friend pulled the film out of the new roll and handed it to the MP who was satisfied. We developed the good roll and I have a copy of the picture we took.

At lunch a message came over the PA asking for an armament officer to report to a specific hanger. Since I was also the AO I left th mess hall and picked up my armament chief then went to the hanger specified where this MIG was paarked surrounded with all the brass on the base. I reported and was told to disarm this MIG. It was difficult to understand Russian and we worked for over an hour before the armament bay under the belly suddenly fell down and was caught by the cables on each corner. We were able to unload the armament bays and the machine guns then were told to depart the hanger. It was eventually disassembled and flown to a Pacific Island where it was re-assembled and test flown. One of the test pilots was named Macristle (? spelling) who was an ace both in WWII and Korea.I still have that photo.

Comments: Remember one day a flight of four was supposed to be coming home and only three landed. One of the landed pilots was heard to say he saw the fourth ship hit but did not know if he went down. Later from out of the blue here comes a lone F-86 at a very low altitude and he landed safely. However, he had no canopy or flight helmut. The canopy had been shot away and the suction had taken his helmut. Saw many shot up F-86's with some big holes in them. They were a great fighter and the pilots who flew them were heroes for sure. I was very proud to have been a part of the support.

Keywords: At Kimpo short time then assigned to Yongdongdo Island for homing station setup. Stayed there about 9 months. Loved to visit flight line when F-86s were going out on missions when I was off.
