Comments: Doing research on my grandfather, Col. James R. Howell, USAF ret. 1967. I recently came across some photos of Korea,Japan,Guam,Kansas,England,Okinawa, that I believe are from the 301st. These are from the late 40's to mid 50's. Many are of golf games with a Col.Flemming,Col.Rea, and Maj,Sconning. Also a pic of a Maj. Vernon in Scampton 1948. I would be willing to share these if anyone is interested in these. I would also appreciate any help in my own research.

Comments: Am I crazy or what? My memories of Okinawa in 46 and 47 was the 301st Bomb Wing and the 8th Air Force station at Kadena. General Ennis Whitehead was Wing Commander. Nowhere can I find anything that say the 301st was on Okinawa at that time.. Incidently, when you turned off Hwy One at the intranace to 8th ASF Hq, there was a Baka Bomb on display.

Comments: I am researching information and photos for a book about B-29/B-50 deployments to England during the Cold War 1948-1953. The 301st B.Wg deployed to RAF Scampton from October 1948 to January 1949 with three squadrons, the 32nd-yellow, 352nd- red and 353rd-blue, all aircraft wearing 8th AF " Triangle V " tail markings. During May-Nov,1950 a second visit was made .this time to RAF Lakenheath,Sculthorpe and Bassingbourne. The aircraft carried " Square A " tail codes and the squadrons were, 32nd-orange, 352nd-green, 353rd-blue and the 301st ARSq-red and white. Can any one please assist me with information /details of the deployments (Exercises etc ), also pictures /photos of the aircraft as these will also help me with my artwork for the book. Anything loaned to me will be returned to the rightful owner. I will be most grateful for any possible help. sincerely, Robbie Robinson. e.mail:- rmjm161045@ntlworld.com address;- 37 Home Farm Road, Houghton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, PE28 2BN, England.

Held various admin jobs including NCOIC Classified Msg Center. Hot job during the trying "Cuban Missile Crisis". Most of B-47's were dispersed all over country. Everyone was on alert for weeks on end. Trans to 801st AirDiv hq as NCOIC, classified documents. 801st was under Gen O F Lassiter. Worked part time @ the NCO club as bartender & really got to know most of the enlisted flying crew members. Great group of people. Left LAFB for Castle AFB in 1963 & then to Vietnam in 1965. From Vietnam then to Williams AFB in '66; then back to Vietnam in 1972; then return to Williams in 1973 & retired in 1974. Would like to hear from anyone from those really great years at Lockbourne. Comments: I served at LAFB, OH from 1960 to 1965 and worked on ECM for EB-47s and the Blue Cradle used by the 512BS of the 376th BW. Does anyone out there remember that project? How about some of the "Bomb Bay Riders" giving me a call? Remember those takeoffs and landings on the "stairstep" beside the pilot & copilot?

Waiting to hear from you......

Comments: Ran across this site while searching for information on the 376th EMC wing at Lockbourne. Didn't serve during the Korean war but hope I can make contact with some of my buddies from my Lockbourne days. As someone else said on the site. Had a lot of good times, hope we did some good things, and appreciate just living the SAC experience and consider the one time I me Gen Lemay to be, next to my wife and kids, the most outstanding experience of my life. Think it's pretty stupid to change SAC's name but then they didn't ask me, and probably wouldn't have listened if I did say it was stupid, so I'll just remember the good people and mission the general took us all on.

Served in the Air Intelligence section under base ops from late 1956, still remember how cold it was when I reported from Texas, until late 1958. I was then transfered, with a change of AFSC to the new managmetn system Lemay put in, to Griffis AFB NY up by Syracuse to start the B-52 wing that was moved there.

Not trying to be "Hokey" about it but I really do want to say thanks to all the guys who were with the 301st before me. They allowed me to serve without being in a "shooting" war.

PS For those who served, or wish more infomation about the history, stories, and photos of the Stratojet there is an association site at:www.b-47.com

Comments: Would appreciate whatever information might be obtained from Korean War Project records. Of course, we are not positive that he did in fact go to Korea, as we have no verification of such information.

Keywords: Lt. Elbert L. Kidd was my bombardier in the 419th Sdn, 301st Bomb Grp, 15th Air Force flying B-17s out of Foggia, Italy in WWII. I was his pilot, and understand that Lt. Kidd remained in service and was sent to Korea with the 773rd Bomb Sqdn, 463rd Bomb Grp. At a 301st reunion several years ago I heard that he was sent to Korea and was a casualty there. I do not have his Social Security Number , but his Air Corps service number was 0-776570. His address at the time he went into service in 1943 was Moneta, Virginia. Remaining members of our crew meet bi-annually at the 301st Bomb Group reunion and would like to know whether the sparse information we have about Lt. Kidd is faction or just hearsay. We entertain hopesw that he is still alive and can be contacted.

Comments: Served all of my enlistment at Barksdale AFB in the 301st.Went overseas in a B29 and later to N.Africa and Tule Greenland in KC97.Was on flight status the entire time and we were on alert most of the time.Got married while in the service and was on seperate rations.I learned an awfully lot about a host of things that served me in later life. It was a great experience and memorable four years no regrets at all.SAC took care of their technicians thanks to Gen Curtiss LEMAY.
