I am looking for anyone who knew my grandfather during the war. He passed away right after I was born and I'm curious about his experiences in the war. I would appreciate any help.

Also, I have several pictures from Korea of the squadron in case you're interested.

Thanks.

Comments: I found this site while looking for a picture of the Lemon Drop Kid, so I could reconstruct Bob Hope's nose on a photo my Mother has of the crew; when finshed I will add a link to it. She was overjoyed when I showed her the page and told her that she could leave a message here. Her message follows:

=============================

Ben died April 6th, 2005. We will always fondly remember our "family" and the time with the crew of the "Lemon Drop Kid". We were always sad to have missed Jim and Nedra's visit at Christmas, because we had already left for Chicago to have Christmas with family. I have fond memories of Sunday night waffles with the Ratzburg family... Tom Bradshaw's visit at my parents home in Chicago (Elmwood Park)... and much, much more! I would love to hear from "any and all" :)

Peace and Love

El

========================

Please contact me at by eMail, snail Mail, or phone and I'll be glad to give you her home address and phone number. She still lives at the address they have had since 1957 for those of you that might still have it somewhere.

in loving memory

Chris

Comments: I haven't visited this site for quite some time and would like to invite everyone to visit my web site, B-29s in the Korean War, which I believe is the most comprehensive on the topic on the Internet today. Recently my server has provided a huge amount of additional web space, which will allow me to post files that were previously too large. The start page for B-29s in the Korean War is http://mywebpages.comcast.net/b29sinthekoreanwar/b29koreanwar.htm Older "bookmarks" and "favorites" will probably not work.

Comments: My friends' father was the Aircraft Commander: Capt? Edward "ED" Bradfield of Rockville, IN. Looking for any surviving crew members, or those who can share information about this plane and crew. Mr Bradfield shared a story with me... as I built-up a 1/48 scale model of his "Raz'N Hell" B-29A during the Korean War. He related the tale that his aircraft was likely the only B-29 to shoot-out one of it's own engines during the Korean War. He said during maint. they forgot to replace the barrel-stops on one of the top-turrets. During the course of the mission, they were under orders to expend all ammunition before returning to base. One of the crew--not a gunner--wanted to shoot the guns, and he swiveled the turret and promptly shot-out their #2 engine when the guns depressed farther than they should have been able--due to the missing stops. I modeled "Raz 'N Hell" with it's #2 engine shot-up and prop feathered, wheels down and preparing to land after this mission. Ed Bradfield died a few years ago and I inherited his model. I would GLADLY pass it along to any surviving crew-member if interested. (It's BIG!)

Tim
