Comments: Recently found this web site, very excited to read the messages about the 26th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. My father 1Lt Arthur A Bodette was assigned to this squadron about Dec 1955 I believe. He was flying in a Memorial Day flyby when for some reason his aircraft fell out of formation crashed on Clark killing him instantly and depriving a four year old son of his father. The other men that were flying with him that day included Capt Freeman, 1Lt Ohlinger?, Capt Derby, 1Lt Zander and 1Lt Hammarle?. Maintenance Officers Capt Homer Sharp and Maj Robert Baker signed forms of the accident report. I also have letters signed by Lt Col Homer Morris/commander and Maj Gen R J Reeves. With all this black and white information I still know very little about my father and wish to learn all that I can. If any can provide insight or information on my father it would greatly be appreciated

Comments: I am looking for information on how to research my Father's squadron from when he was in the Air Force after the Korean War. All I know is he flew a F-86 with the 26th fighter squadron and arrived in Korea in 1953. He was based at Kadena AFB. If anyone can help me locate websites that have information and the final destination of his plane I would appreciate it.

Met some amazing people there! SSgnt William Ussery, and, Airman 2nd class Roy El Smith. We had several tdys to Formosa during the days of Quemoy and Matsu...the Chinese did a pretty good job with our old f86as. We pulled alert duty for them with our f86d's. Remember Tainaan, and Shin Chu?? They scared the hell out of us!!! Ding How saved our asses more then once!! Wou;ld like to hear from any of you guys! Damn, we missed Korea..and Viet Nam...personally, I am happy as hell!!

Comments: I got to Naha AFB in 1954, worked in hyd. shop, and ran paint shop. Was at Naha for nine months & squadron went on a mobility move to Clark AFB, PI. There I worked in the engine shop, then on the flight line. I crewed 031 until the pilot came in with the window deicer on and cracked the wind screen. When I left it was still grounded. I heard they cannibalized it and never did fly again.

Comments: Our guys in the 1962 AACS got to OKI in June '53 and were first assigned to Yontan.
Talk about ancient! The tower had a thatch roof, one VHF freq. and a B-3 light gun.
The A/C were F-80s. I don't now the Sqdn ID.
We moved to Naha shortly thereafter. The tower was about 100' high and sat on a pretty good sized hill.
I thought I was gonna have a nosebleed the first time I walked up the steps. Ain't 18 a great age?
F-86s were just arriving....call sign Paper Doll.
Anybody there then?

Comments: I received an email recently from David Llorente (F-86D NAA Tech. Rep.) that Col. I. B. Jack Donalson died Sept. 24 2006. He was 91 years old and had been in pretty bad health. I had visited him last year at his home near Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. and he was in good spirits at that time. Those of you who were at Clark AFB in 1957 when he came on board probably remember how he turned the 26th into one of the best Air Force units in the Pacific through his great leadership. I have always considered it to have been a pleasure to serve under this C.O. and that the 26th was my best Air Force assignment during my four years in the service.

Comments: Was in the 26th FIS at Clark AB from 1954 to 1956. Was assigned as NCOIC of Fighter Operations. Was A T/Sgt at the time. Mostly took care of Flight Records and assisted in the Training Department. Col. Donaldson was the CO at that time. Also helped out in the Flight Equipmewnt Department. Occasionally would fly in the back seat of the T33 on target missions when they would fly the "rag". Was a great bunch of guys there and I could beat most all of them playing ping-pong. Was there when one of our F86D's crashed when making a flyby killing one of our young pilots. I lived on base after my wife came over. Remeber the F80's that would come down from Tiawan every year for gunnery practice. Those Chinese couldn't fly worth a darn. Several flew right into the mountain at the gunnery range. One Chinese F80 had a flameout on takeoff and the idiot ejected at ground zero. Got my first taste of a "Red-out" flying in that T33. Lt. Sydner thought it was funny when we landed and my eyes just about fell out of their sockets. Was good duty there though. Took a few trips to Hong Kong and Japan. Brought a new Chevy over with me and sold it for twice as much as I paid for it. Used to go hunting occasionally out in Bat Valley. Good duty, lots of friends. I'm 74 years old now.. retired with 21 years in 1969. Live very near McGuire AFB, New Jersey. Made CMsgt before I retired. Would do it all over again if given the chance. Good luck to all.

Comments: My father was a F-86 D driver stationed at Clark from January 1956 through January 1958. His name was Capt. George V. Moore. My name is Jerry Moore and my brother and mother were also there at the same time. My dad flew the F-102 in Nam in 1965. He was wounded and was sent back to the states. He spent 9 week in the military hospital located in Denver. After recovering he was assigned flight instructor at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Co. His health then deteriorated to the point that he was grounded and then retired. Telling a pilot he can't fly any more is like cutting there heart out. He died in March 27, 1978 with a broken heart.
Other aircraft that my dad flew were the F-101, P-51, P-61, T-33, T-37, T-38, and other smaller aircraft.
I am looking for other members of the 26th FIS that were at Clark during the period of 56 through 58. I remember beer call on Friday night. I would always stop for soda and shoot the breeze with members of the 26th while delivering the newspaper. I delivered the newpaper to most of the officers of the 26th that lived on the hill. What a good time I had.

The RF4Cs and chicken emblem, quite a scronee looking bird. We also had patches on our uniforms. The story about the chicken squadron I believe is true since the Airforce offically required the squadron to display the chicken patches and emblems. I can't believe the Airforce would do this without some resaon

While at Naha lived in quansot hut below tower & across from fire station. Nearly shot up a North West Airlines DC-4 that had just landed. Spent some time in New Koza Village. Would like to locate A 1/C Charles O allen from Stowe Ohio or CWO Chiefo-S/Sgt Orendorf. Understand Sqdn got F=86's & went to Clark after I left.

First of all the 26th didn't go to Korea with the 51st. They stayed behind to protect that corner of the world. What are you acusing them of - escaping from Naha and leaving the enlisted personnel behind?
