Request for information on John Boyd

Comments: I am a professor at the University of London, and am currently researching a book on seeing and seizing opportunities in different domains including business and the military. Am very interested in the work of Colonel John R. Boyd, USAF (ret.) as part of this research project. He flew approximately thirty missions as a wingman with the 25th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron from March 27, 1953 through the end of the Korean War. Am particularly interested in personal anecdotes that give some sense of him as a pilot and a man. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Don

MIA PILOTS

Comments: I am researching a documentary film about USAF and RAF pilots who were classified MIA whilst flying F-86 Sabres in the Korean War. We are looking for anyone who was flying with someone when this happened: maybe you were their wingman and saw them parachute out or make a forced landing? Maybe they just disappeared in thick cloud? If you can help we would really appreciate it. We want to make this as accurate as possible and hope the film will be a testimony to those who lost their lives.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Comments: I'm a member of the Douglas Matheson Squadron of Arnold Air Society, located at the University of Washington. I'm currently trying to find out more about 1Lt Matheson to help educate our squadron, but can't find any information online about him, except that he was KIA either April 9 or 15, 1951, and that he was flying an F-80C aircraft. The KORWALD Report also states that his plane went down 1.5 miles NW of Taegu. If you have any information regarding Lt. Matheson, either personal or biographical, please e-mail me at the address listed. Your help is very much appreciated.

There were a couple of British pilots: John Lovell and Jock Maitland. John Glenn, a marine pilot, was there. You all have heard plenty from him since. These are all pilots from B Flight.

Comments: I am trying to find information relating to the my uncle (mother's brother), 1st Lt. Edward Fleming, who was shot down over Korea (KIA 1951). He has several siblings still alive that know very little about his fate. Family gatherings often discuss their beloved brother.

I am interested in trying to find out info such as the type of missions he flew, the jet type and markings for the jet my uncle flew (so I can build a model that might duplicate his plane) and any other information that might shed some light on his time in Korea and his fate.

I have a picture of Uncle Edward leaning against what I believe is a F-84(?) (nose number FS-686), but I do not know if this was the jet he was flying on his last mission.

And to all veterans, Thanks.

Comments: I am researching air combat in the Korean War by non-F-86 units. I am looking for information, first hand and otherwise on F-80 units’ air combat with MiG’s, especially in the period November 1950 thru mid 1951. A few of these encounters are well known and written about in published US works but most are not, sometimes they are only barely mentioned at all in available US records. But some had surprising results from the Soviet perspective that I believe would make them very interesting if described in detail from both sides, so this is what I am trying to do. Any info relevant to this is most welcome.

He was killed in 1950 or 1951. I am having trouble finding out any

would go about finding out if any of the bones that have been
retrieved from Korea are his or just any information you would have at

To Those Who Served,

I am looking for anyone who was a member of the above unit. My brother
1st Lt. Richard S. Drezen Jr. was a pilot in the above organization from
November 1951 to July 1952. He was shot down and classified as a MIA on

My brother is dead, this I know. I need to find him if possible, and
lace him beside my mother. I need to do this so they both can rest in
eternal peace.

If all of us, the surviving members of loved ones, pull together, it

More on Lt. Drezen

Dear Sir; (Col Biteman)

Thank you for your response. I have been sent a complete file from the
Air Force, containing witness reports and final status. It would appear
from the witness reports that my brother perished, when his F86
exploded. As the reports state, they did not see any chute, nor did they
see the canopy detach prior to explosion. I guess it's time to lay him
to rest. After what I have read about the Russians, and our F86 pilots,
maybe this is the best news.

In every conflict we loose those, that we love. My brother has taken his
place in history, with others like himself. War is a period of futility.

No one really wins.

Thank you very much. My brother was with the 25th Fighter Interceptor
wing located in Suwon South Korea.
