Stationed from November 1952 and returned November 1953. Have more pictures and memorial to Col Glen C. Nye, Wing Comdr, and Col Clinton C Wasem, succeeding Wing Comr, and Col. The great distance separating our place of duty to the air war in Korea, made the men proud of the service rendered.

Comments: I saw this story in our local paper and thought I'd post a request for information about A2C James Harold Brown. The story is about a tombstone that was displaced and collected by the City of High Point, North Carolina. After storing it for 6 months and unsuccessfully researching Airman Brown, the City was forced to send the tombstone to an auction company. If anyone knows anything about A2C James Harold Brown, feel free to contact me and I'll forward your comments to the city. Here's the link to the story:

Jack Vanwey wrote on 2000-10-27 09:47:34.0

Comments: On July 7 of this year, I was watching a CBS news report on the noon news. The reporter was interviewing a Mike Dowe and they were talking about the end of the Korean War. Mr. Dowe was saying that he was one of the last of the POWS released from a North Korean prison camp. He went on to say that 20 prisoners were left behind and never heard from again, as far as he knew. I thought that I also heard Mr. Dowe say that they may have been sent to Siberia. At the end of the report they showed the names of the twenty men and William Vanwey was the name at the end of the list. They said to turn into the news later in the day to hear more about the story. However, I did not see a followup story later that day. I requested a transcript of the show from CBS. However, the transcript did not have the word Siberia mentioned and it did not have the list of names-which had been shown visually, but not read aloud. The transcript was just of what had been said, although, I still think they mentioned Siberia. I have recently found out how to reach Mike Dowe and I sent him an e-mail asking if he had any information. I want to know where the list of names came from-who might have that list-and if it is posssible that prisoners might have been sent to Russia(Siberia). If Willie were one of the twenty men, then it would mean that he had been captured and was a POW. I found a little information on the internet which I will forward to you. In one place, it says that Willie was lost on October 7,1952, and in two places it give the actual date of presumed dead as 12-31-53. I think that this last date was used for many who were presumed dead at the end of the war. There is also information that Willie had been tagged for DNA comparison. I am sure that Willie did not survive the war, but I would like to know as a friend if he had been held as a POW for a long length of time and whether or not he was held after the war. I found some evidence through the internet that pilots were captured and sent to Russia where they were asked to talk about our planes and flying techniques. The government won't say much about the possibility of American airmen having been captured and sent to Russia.

Comments: My Father served at K-9, years unknown, during the Korean war. I'm trying to find out anyone who may have known him and/or what he did there. He passed in 1996, and I never did find out exactly what he did in that war. God bless you all!
