Comments: My dad, John Quintin Welch flew reconnaissance in Korea. He is presently in the final stages of cancer and will probably not make it through the summer. He has spoken to me on several occaisons of his experiences in Korea, has given me is squadron patch "Every Man A Tiger" and a piece of impeler blade from when he "threw the bucket" during a a mission. He does not know I am trying to get in touch with any of the men who were part of the squadron however, I thought it might be nice to try.
Tin was an actor and director of a local theatre in Portland OR and was in the film, One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest. His great success came as owner of Welch's, an antique store in Portland which he ran with his wife Carol for many years. God bless all of you who served so very long ago, it is an honor to have this opportunity to reach out.

Comments: I was assigned to the 15th TRS from Feb 53-Jan 54 and was a crewchief on an RF80C in TSgt Frost's flight. I was in the squadron when we received RF86's in the "Honey Bucket" flight and have found Louis Workmeister, who was an F86 crewchief. Col McCollum was Wing Commander (later worked for him when he was a Maj Gen and commander of Amarillo Tech Trng Cntr. Lt Col Newman was the squadron commander and Major Saylor was the exec officer. Can't remember the First sergeant but the line Chief was MSgt Gregory and Capt Chambers was the Maintenance Officer. The flight chiefs were TSgt Frost, Fielder and Tebo. Some of the crewchiefs were Granbury, Mechtel, Workmeister, Johnson and others I can no longer remember names. Some of our pilots were Capt Howell, Lt Barbuto and Lt Sartain. It has been a long time but good to find this site after so many years. I remember the MIG landing at Kimpo and the Marine pilot landing a Banshee that had one leg shot off. Also remember drinking some of that good Australian beer with our Aussie friends in the Meteor squadron.

Comments: I'm researching Korean War air combat, especially besides F-86 v. MiG. I'd like to talk to anybody in 15th TRS who had encounters with MiG's. Of the whole war, the most interesting incident is Feb. 23, 1951 because of what Soviet records show about that encounter. But I'm almost equally interested in any and all cases 15th TRS a/c were attacked by enemy a/c. Thanks

Comments: I'm converting an F-101B model to Col. Shelton's RF-101C, and am reasonably certain that his plane was in SEA camouflage (not natural metal or air defense grey). It is reasonably certain that as of April 1965 suqadron code letters had not been assigned to the 15th. What is not clear is if the plane's s/n would have been "60190" or "AF 60--190" (with small "AF" and "60" one above the other and a large "190" alongside). Anyone know how the arrangement of the aircraft serial number? (Or, was there just a white aircraft I.D. number {for example, "214", "512", etc.). Thank you for your assistance.

Thank you for the information on Lt. Milton L. Wiseman.
The CasDt must have been the date declared as I believe that Lt Wiseman
went down in an RF-80A in either late 1951 or early 1952.
The 15th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, as well as the 45th TRS and
the 12th TRS made up the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Group of the 67th
Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, APO 970. During 1951 the 15th TRS was
equipped with RF-80's, the 45th TRS with RF-51's and the 12th TRS was
night photo using the Douglas B-26.
Again, thank you for the response. No further information needed at
this time.
