Comments: I was assigned to 67th REMCO at Itazuke AB and when
it closed after Korea War finished I went to 15th
TRS, Komaki AB which had RF80 A and C, RT33 and RF86F
type aircraft. Later the RT33 were sent to the
Chinese AF. When it was transfered to Yakota AB we
had RF80A and C and F86F type aircraft. We lost Lt.
Stewart in September 1954 when he was making a test
flight in an old RF80A over Hachiochi, Japan. The
control cables broke when he attempted to pull out of
a dive! His son was born in Nagoya Army Hospital on
the same day as our son! Later, in 1955 we started to
get RF84F type airplanes. As I already over 4 years
in Japan I could not get anymore extensions on my
tour and was scheduled for rotation back to the CONUS
in October 1956. We retuned to the states on a troop
ship which had all the dependents of all Marine Corp
men as the Commandant said they could not be with
their husbands/fathers! We had good weather all the
way back to San Fransico, CA. I remained in the AF
until 1981 retiring with 30 years service.

Comments: I was a member of the 56th Weather Recon Squadron at Yokota Air Base. I was walking along the row of hangers on my way up towards headquarter. One of the hangers rear door was open and I saw a RF-86F. It was unusual because it had nose art. It had an Al Capp cartoon on it and the character was a little round figure with stubbs of hair on top and little arms and legs and named "The Bald Iggle." Does any one remember that bird. This was late in 1954 I think. I'm a model builder and I would like to build a model of it, but need the serial number. For your 15th Recon Squadron members the Air Force Museum now has a RF-86F on display. I believe it is in the markings of the 15th.

Col McCollum was Wing Commander (later worked for him when he was a Maj Gen and commander of Amarillo Tech Trng Cntr. Lt Col Newman was the squadron commander and Major Saylor was the exec officer. Can't remember the First sergeant but the line Chief was MSgt Gregory and Capt Chambers was the Maintenance Officer. The flight chiefs were TSgt Frost, Fielder and Tebo. Some of the crewchiefs were Granbury, Mechtel, Workmeister, Johnson and others I can no longer remember names. Some of our pilots were Capt Howell, Lt Barbuto and Lt Sartain. It has been a long time but good to find this site after so many years. I remember the MIG landing at Kimpo and the Marine pilot landing a Banshee that had one leg shot off. What is not clear is if the plane's s/n would have been "60190" or "AF 60--190" (with small "AF" and "60" one above the other and a large "190" alongside).
Anyone know how the arrangement of the aircraft serial number? (Or, was there just a white aircraft I.D. number {for example, "214", "512", etc.).
Thank you for your assistance.

Comments: Comments: There is a web site dedicated to the history of the 67th. Wing and especially the 15th. TRS of the 67th. TRW at Kimpo, K-14. It covers the years of 1951 through 1954, with yearbook info. Some great photos to look at, contributed by former members. The 12th. TRS is covered also.
Take a look at this URL

http://www.cottonpickers.org/

Lt. Col. John Duquette(Ret), (See prior posting from him) has really done a great job with his web site, for us that served there, in those units. the 8th/15th. and neighboring units of the 45th.; 12th. TRS and the 77th. Australian Squadron.

Comments: I arrived at Kimpo in Jan.1953, there until Nov.1953. I have a picture of a crew and Flight Chief of TR 253. I have no idea who it is. I was on the maint. crew next to the photo lab. We towed out aircraft and had the tugs and 4x4's to carry VIPs. I have been looking for some of my friends who were there at the time with a house boy "boysan" Kim I am especially looking for Tom Broadus, Michael Governale, Treadway, Jody? and whoever was there in '53.
I just found this site and never knew it existed.
I am the white-haired kid from New Hampshire who's wife had a baby while I was in Korea.
Thank you, Roscoe Wilmot
