Comments: Looking for anyone who knew my Uncle Johnny. He was a navigator on a B-26 Invadera and was shot down Aug 7th, 1952 near Hwangju. His mother and father were my uncle Emile and aunt Ella Roessel and lived next door to us in Huntington Park, California. I remember when we got the word that his airplane was shot down and he was missing in action. I was 5 years old at the time. I still have a photo of him taken during WWII when he was going through flight training. In the photo he is stepping up into the cockpit of a Stearman biplane. We always hoped that he had survived and would come home at the end of the war.

This plane was originally part of the 8th BS and crashed in '51. Then it was transferred to the 13th and shot down in '52. My grandfather served on this plane and I would love to have a photo of it.

I know that the late Lt. Col. Emil Pindzola was the pilot and Roy L. Compton was the Nav/Bomb. I would love any information, photos or general recollections/stories about this plane and it's crew.

Thanks!

Comments: July 29, 2004 Greetings:

I am Randy Dawson residing in Columbus, GA. near Ft. Benning. My dad was in the Korean conflict during early 50's, he does not talk much about it unless asked.

All I really know is that he was a Sargent, William C. Dawson, and prepared many parachutes. Having read about the Korean War, I want to learn more details. My dad is still living in TX, we talk now and then, however he has aged like the rest of us. I am unsure about how he feels about the subject. I read postings on the internet by people all the time, magazine articles, etc...

In the mid-1990's, a joint US-Russian Commission was successful in accounting for some Korean MIA and KIA. We have learned what happened to them 42 years after their disappearance.

We are seeking relatives of his crew to share this information with them. We also seek information from those who knew Ray Wells in Korea.

The magazine/association is involed in locating, and informing others

The articles are interesting, written by the men who lived the
experience of Korea; stories about winning the Distinquished Flying
Cross, the history of the 13th, being a pilot at the front, and much
more. The photographs are amazing (to me), bringing home more clearly
to me what Dad saw over there.

My name is Mary Glover and I live in Oklahoma. I am looking for
information about my father who was a navigator on a B 26 bomber in
korea. He departed Kunsan Airdrome, Korea on July 7, 1952 on a night
intruder mission over North Korea . The 3 man crew never returned and
so they were declared mias.

I don't know the name or the pilot and co-pilot or who ever was with
him. If anyone has any information about their father having done the
same thing at the same time ,I would be interested in knowing what
you know and what their names were.

This is the reason I found your home page Cecil. I am not very familiar
yet with navigating and getting my own home page.

By the way, My father's name was Holman Calvin Rawls, Jr.
His nickname was Sonny.

If that is the case, by searching for 13th Bomb Squadron men, I have
been sent copies of orders transfering men thru 2349th Personnel
Processing Grp, 3rd Bomb Wing, 6403rd Personnel Processing Sq, a few
from Langley AFB and probably a few other orders of that type.

We have accounted for all but a couple hundred of our guys.

1st Lt Clifford G. Selman was my only paternal uncle. He was attached to
the 13th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Wing. On 17 April 1953 he bailed
out of the back of his B-26 with another airman and became missing in
action. A year later he was declared KIA.

I am looking for anyone who might have know him or knew of him. I am
conducting a genealogical research of my family and any stories that

Dear Mr. Barker:

Clifford Sellman was my roommate at Purdue University. He went to Korea
and went to the German Occupation. He was reported killed in action in
1954!

A brief search has not revealed any information to me but I have been
lead to believe that he was shot down over Korea, bailed out OK, and his
parachute reported on the ground. The date of his reported death (as
shown on the Korea War Memorial in Indianapolis) is 1954 possiably
indicating a death in captivity.

Any information that you might add or correct would be appreciated.

Thank You,

Gene Easley

----more from KWP---

Name spelled Selman on Honor Role

Selman, Clifford Gene

The date indicates the original date of casualty of 5/17/53, near the
end of the war. The official date was from either a POW debrief,
or files filtering to command level. The other option is that was the
date of determination.

I was looking for info on my cousin, his name is Johnnie Roessel,1st Lt,

Korea.

I was named after my cousin and for most of my life I have heard
different stories told of what happened. My mom just informed me that
she read an article in the newspaper that references a b-29 that crashed
about six months before the end of the was. She remembers that my cousin
Johnnie's plane crashed around that time also. She said the article
mentions that there was a crew of five men on the plane that crashed at
that same time and that most of them survived.

I would like to know if you can give me some suggestions on where to
begin my search for info, or if there is a group of pilots that are
still around that may have information. After my cousin was reported as
missing, his family was contacted by fellow pilots that said they were
able to fly over and see that the plane crash landed, that it did not
crash and burn. They were unable to do anything, but returned the next
day to the crash site and believe that the plane had been buried or
covered, as there was no sign of the plane.

This has always led us to believe that he did survice and was taken as a
POW.

I would appreciate your help and if you could email I would really be
grateful.

Thanking you in advance,

Sincerely,

The other reason for writing is we found a 13th Bomb Sqdn man yesterday.
His tour in the 13th was while it was at Johnson AFB after the War. He
was with the 34th Bomb Sqdn, 17th BW while it was at Pusan. Bernard
would like to contact some of your people.  His address is;

I don't have his phone number.

Every once in awhile the wife of one of our members, Linda Brooks, takes
it on herself to assist us in our search. She does a hell of a job.
Already this week she has come up with seven finds. Smiegal is one of
them. I need to put a write-up in the INVADER letting everyone know how
hard she works for the Association.
