AVIATION RADIOMAN 3RD CLASS 1950- 1952 |
| DONALD C. COURTNEY wrote on March 22, 2011 CITY AND STATE: FARMINGTON HILLS MI UNIT: VP 731 SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: NAVY VETERAN Comments: Aviation Radioman 3rd Class (AL3) I was a member of VP-731 and flew as a radio operator for a short time with Crew 9 and later on with Crew 3 for the first deployment. While on the second deployment I flew as First Radio Operator for Crew 9. Our PPC was Lt. Calvin and our Commanding Officer was Commander W. T. O'dowd, the "Captain". We had two of our people killed in action by two Mig fighters on July 31, 1952. Harlan Gay Goodroad and Claude Playforth. We shall remember. They took away our two 50 caliper deck turret machine guns and gave us a "searchlight". Whoopee..just what we needed. Keywords: SF9, SF3, SF9 |
