THANK YOU |
SCOTT DICKINSON wrote on January 29, 2013 City and State: AUSTIN CO Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: First I would like to thank all of you for your service, and for keeping memory alive of so many brave souls that seem to be forgotten by their leaders.my name is Scott Dickinson and AD3 Jack D Lively is my uncle,my mother,Patricia Dickinson has been fighting for answers for 20+ years, and I'm sure jack this is proud of her as I am. I am saddened and ashamed that the government for which they served so honorably ,have for some reason decided to disrespect their service, their memory, and their families. my mother as stated many times that she feels that our government is waiting for her generation to pass and these cases to be forgotten, but in honor of my uncle and of all the other men and women that have served this country, we must not let this happen! T.E. MOORE wrote on February 2, 2012 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: OTHER Comments: When U.N. intelligence reported enemy shipping at Mokpo,Korea, near the south-western tip of the Korean peninsula, in Aug.1950, the British destroyers, Cockade, and Cossack, headed for the port of Mokpo. The two British ships wound their way thirty miles up a narrow channel, fighting ten-knot tital currents much of the way. With the spotting assistance they needed all the way, from a U.S. Navy Patrol Squadron 6 Neptune aircraft based in Japan. The ships found one enemy steamer at the site. The British war-ships sank the steamer, and bombarded surrounding docks, and railroad sidings, before threading their way back down the tortuous channel. A joint U.N. success story. KEVIN CARSON wrote on January 28, 2012 City and State: TROY ID Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: May father served with VP-1 during the Korean War. As a result, I am interested in collecting oral histories and recollections from as many of you as are willing - so that we can preserve information from this period. I am interested in the names of men you served with and your memories of them, where you were stationed, the experiences you had,the patrol flights and actions and I would like to hear from you if you were in a ground crew or training as well as flight crew. I asked my father to make his own record of his time and experiences from that period. We need to preserve the record of the missions you all performed during this critical time in our history. VP 6 DURING 1951- 1952 |
PETER LEIBERT wrote on January 4, 2003 City and State: LA MIRADA CA Unit: FAWTUPAC, VP6, FASRON 112 Service or Relationship: NAVY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I was with VP6 during the 51-52 period and flew as an ECM operator. We lost three aircraft during that tour. My first related assignment was to assist in scraping one that had run off the end of the runway in southern Japan after losing a lower jug on an engine. Later, I had just flown with the crew that lost an engine during a snow storm off of Korea where when they lost their lower jug. The theory of the day was that the radioman chief had been hit by equipment which came lose. The skipper actually had opened his hatch and stuck his head out and probably looked back in and saw the first radioman needed help. My understanding about the plane shot down on November 6th was mixed. I personaly had never flown over any part of Russia or China on any of my patrols, only water, water and more water, so I bought into the line that they were flying at least 25 miles off the coast like we were supposed to. If that was true, it would be difficult to expect to recover bodies during that time of the year. In hind sight, I am consider myself lucky that I was not in the PB4Y2 squadron that relieved us. They lost 3 planes during the two weeks we overlapped when relieved which killed some our pilots who were flying checkouts. Keywords: Lost Neptunes |

I can't remember their names. I was in a crew on the flight preceeding theirs with the same mission. This crew is MIA. I feel ashamed that I can't remember the name of the young airman on that flight whose body I was to escort to his home had it been recovered. He was to do the same for me if he survived and I didn't. There is information and misinformation on this shoot down in books I have found but no crew list. Wife of one of the crew members was working as an attendant at the Pearl Harbor in the fifties when I bought gas there. I would like to communicate with any family members and persons knowing more facts about this incident, especially names, etc. of the crew members. /s/Jack Masters, former AL1 in VP6 Keywords: Masters VP6 Atsugi Barbers Point Kodiak |

JACK MASTERS wrote on June 11, 2001 City and State: SAN MARTIN CA Unit: VP6 - VR3, ATU10 Service or Relationship: - Comments: We had some trying times and some great times. I would not take gold for the memories. The thrill of flying. The friendships. The parties. The very active volleyball games, including the Marine aircrews in hanger at B.P. The places visited! There are many names I will never forget. Some that I didn't recall over the years are slowly coming back, thanks to the activity on some of these web sites Saunders, Freddy Musgrave, Joe Ramirez. Quinn, Pomeroy, fuller, more Many names still escape me I need names of that crew and names/addresses of family members of the flight crew that was shot down at Vladavostok in 1951. and I need a way to contact family members. I also need the name of the ALC and the pilot killed in the crash (run-away prop.) Xmas Eve (I think) off the coast of Korea. We were flying in a different quadarant an hear the SOS message. Radioman/electronicsman J. B. Manning was a survivor. Keywords: Vp6 flight crew AL1 Barbers point, Atsugi, Kodiak, Moffett, Corpus Erroll Quinn, Charles Pomeroy, Buddy "Mitch" Mitchell, Joe Hanlon |
