DOES ANYONE REMEMBER LCDR ROBERT F. CLEMENT, USN |
| ROBIN CLEMENT wrote on February 18, 2010 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father, LCDR Robert F. Clement, USN, was killed on February 11, 1960 while engaging in rocket training exercises over the Strait of Juan de Fuca off of Whidbey Island, WA. He was with the VP-50 Patrol Squadron. He and the eight other crew members on board the twin engine P5M Marlin seaplane plunged into the Strait after live ammunition detonated underneath the left wing of the aircraft. There were no survivors. If anyone could share any information regarding the accident, or share any memories of my father, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. ANYONE REMEMBER ROBERT PERHAM? |
| CHERYL RENAUD wrote on June 17, 2008 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My Uncle, Robert Albert Perham, remains were never found in a mishap dated February 11, 1960. He was a crewmember engaging in rocket training excercises over the Strait of San Juan De Fuca, about ten miles southwest of NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. My sister has newspaper clippings, the original Western Union messages that were sent to my Grandparents and several letters from the Commanding Officer of VP-50. He was transfered from VP-17 to VP-50 I was told. They say there were additional aircraft in the area. There were no unusual radio transmissions and then an explosion was seen beneath the left wing. The wing separated and the aircraft plunged into the water. It was a twin engine P5M Marlin. Nine died. Four bodies were recovered. The search ended March 4, 1960. I was just wondering if maybe someone had a photo they could share, or some stories you recall. My email address is reenwad@yahoo.com Thanks, Cheryl Keywords: |
