VF-93 Patch Variations |

Comments: Hello,
I am looking for any 1950s VF-93 vets who can shed light on patch variations for the squadron. Most VF-93 patches have a blue saw blade as the main feature. I've run across one with a green saw blade. Does anyone know why green was used, or of any reasons why the patch was changed? Thank you!

Comments: I served with VF-92 from July 1965 to December 1966 including 2 tours in Viet Nam aboard the carrier USS Enterperise CVAN-65. I am retired from Boeing Aircraft Company, Wichita Div. I was one of the plane Captains for Commander Rosthorn and his successor Commander Rodgers. I am interested in communicating with other members of this squadron who served during this time period. My nickname was "Holly"

Comments: I served with VF92 from '63-'67 aboard the USS Ranger and the USSN Enterprise as an AQF2. I would like to make contact with anyone who served during that period. There is a VF92 reunion organization that meets every year comprised mostly of Korean Era Vets. Please feel free to email me at gheywood9@hotmail.com

Comments: My squadron mate Robert Ryan mentioned the deployment to Hawaii in 1958, I was there also. Returned to Nas Alameda to Deploy to WestPac with VF-92 Detachment November with 4 F2H-3M Banshees on USS YORKTOWN CVS-10, 6 pilots and approx. 40 support crew. We entered the South China Sea to bcomee one of the first to go in harms way. (WE were later awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for that deployment, and could exchange it for Viet Nam medal in late 1970s. VF-92 along with sister sqd.VF94 made more combat deployments to Nam than any other Navy sqd. 10 counting the 1958 deployment by VF-92 Det.N. Squadron was disastablished in 1975 at NAS Miramar. to become part of the formation of VF-1 and VF-2 Tom Cat Squadrons.

Comments: More specific I was ordered to FITRON92 Outside US on a WestPac cruise with CAG-9. Pick up squadron in Guam. I reported to NAS Alameda ready to board a MATS plane to Guam, when the person in charge of moving us, Said "Outside US?????", no your here. He left and soon returned and again said, "Yeah, your squadron is over here in Hanger 1". I did report to hanger 1 and sure there was VF92 waiting for me. I'm an enlisted man and at this time was an AK3. No one seems to want to remember The Silver Kings of CAG-9's VF92. In 1958 we went aboard the Yorktown (CVA10) steamed off to Hawaii for 2 weeks to await our part in the Leabanon Laios Crisis. We turned around went back NAS Alameda, all under tight security. When we landed, all of the wives were there at the ramp waiting for us.
Oh well good times must come to an end and in Oct 1958, I was ordered to NAS Avaiation Supply Agana Guam.
Hey it was nice remembering old times. See if you can get VF92 reactivacted to CAG-9 at least from October 1957 to October 1958 when I was squadron personel. I also remember that we had F2H Banshee's and the carriers hated to see us come aboard. In 1958 we converted to Phantoms. I also remember one of the CAG-9 squadrons go F8U Crusaders, I believe it was VF93 if I'm not mistaken. I also remember VA91 got new planes all that same year. I know that I have read where VF92 was redesignated to VF94 or something.
Hope you and yours have a very Happy Thanksgiving and a Happy and Holy Holiday Season,
Robert "Bob" Ryan, USNR, AK3 (Honorable Discharged 1962)

Comments: Finally abale to fine a site for the Boxer and VF-93. I am looking for anyone that may have some information on a Hellcat F6F that crashed in East Moline Ill., on 21 April 1945. This was my grandmother brother who was home on leave and headed out to Calif. to meet the Boxer. He was going to be with VF-93, side number 18. I ended up with most of the pictures of the crash site and his wings and helmet he was wearing that morning. Would like any information anyone may be able to help on and anything about the sqaudron VF-93 itself. Would like to know did VF-93 have any nose art? What was it , etc..... Thanks
