HWACHON DAM |
T.E. MOORE wrote on February 23, 2012 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: OTHER Comments: On 01,May 1951, CAG-19, flying from the USS Princeton CVA-37, launched 8 AD Skyraiders, 5 from VA-195, and 3 from VC-35, all with Mark-13 aerial torpedos locked under their bellies, along with 12 flack suppressing U-Birds for escort, and a VC-61 Panther to take photos. The target was the Hwachon Dam, 50 miles north east of Seoul, which impounds the waters of the Pukhan River. By two's the AD's came in on their torpedo runs, blowing away one sluice gate, and ripping a gaping hole in another. The waters fell in long columns to the river bed below. Air Group-19 had knocked out the Hwachon Dam, and took on the name Dambusters. Keywords: 1,May1951-CAG-19-Hwachon Dam-Pukhan River-Mark-13- USS Princeton-CVA-37-VC-35-VC-61-Dambusters- |

In case of VA-195 I am especially interested in any information on the several encounters between CVG-19/Princeton a/c and MiGs 7 October 1952, as well as an encounter 20 August 1952. H.M. D. wrote on December 15, 1999 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: - Comments: What is the purpose of this site? Are you intending a history of VA-195? What? I am a former member of the squadron and would like to see some kind of a history. PS: I just forwarded the original message and was routed to your home page. I got into the site in the first place with the inquiry "VA-195." What came up was the entry from another former squadron member. Disregard the questions asked. I can see your intent. New question: Do you know of any definitive history of VA-195? Keywords: |
