ON WILTSIE, JUNE 1956 TO AUG. 57 TRANSFERED TO HAMNER 57 TO EALY OUT NOV. 58

City and State: LONG BEACH CA

Unit: NOT SURE OF SURFACE DIVISION

Service or Relationship: OTHER

Comments: I did my tour of duty starting on the Wiltsie June of 1956, did on 3 month tour of the Pacific, from San Diego, Pearl, Midway, Formosa Strait, Hong Kong, Yoko, Manila, Guam, Suva, Brisbane & return to San Diego, transferred to the Hamner and did a second 3 month tour, discharged, Honorable Nov. 58, San Diego.
My Best Buddy on the Wiltsie was: "TEX" AKA, Roy Morman from Texarcan TX., don't know if he's still alive, Last saw him standing on the main deck of the Wiltsie as I was departing the Hamner gangway 1958. We hit the beach many times during that period to party. He was a great friend, I think of him often in the evening having a Brandy & Cigar. It was a very interesting time for a 20 year old. I thank the Navy for the opportunity to have seen all those wonderful ports of call and sail the wondrous Pacific.
I'm known to my friends these days as: "Dano"
If anyone out there is still alive and can remember that duty period and or knows anything about Mr. Roy Morman please contact me at the email address I have listed,
Thanks All You Vets, Hope You'er All Still In The Game.

Comments: My father, Albert F. Walls, Jr. was aboard the USS Wiltsie somewhere between 1943-1946. I have located pictures of him in Tom O'Hara's scrapbook online from the USS Howard 1947-1950. I was wondering if anyone remembers him or knows of any photos from the USS Wiltsie during that time.
thank you.

Keywords: My father served aboard the USS Nicholas, the USS
Wiltsie and then the Bryce Canyon. He was supposed to
be on the Swenson but it got sent back to be
decomissioned. He knows for a fact that he was on the
Dixie that took him to Dinang. Then he took a
helicopter from Dianang onto the Wiltise. 1968-1970
Does any know where I could find the flight logs or
any photgraphs. I have found the Navy Cruise book for
1969 on Ancestry.com that was helpful but I think I
need more in order to help him. Thanks
