Comments: I would like to hear from any one who remembers being on the Union from 1952 to 1953. I remember a lot of faces from the Ist and 2nd Divisions. I remember some training operations with jarheads off of Coronado in San Diego. I remember being tied up in port at San Diego. I remeber many guys on the ship who were very good sailors and were kind to new guys like me. I remeber bein transferred to Radio shack and standing watches there while at sea.

Comments: My dad is Horace W. Wells. He goes by "Hoss" now but I'm not sure he did then. He was on the USS Union during the occupation of Japan.(Some time in 44 or 45) He also told me he was in Hawaii. He had a stroke recently. He's 78. He's pretty much OK except for his speech.
I was hoping to contact someone who remembered him and can give me some history.
Thanks

Douglas County Museum Email address wrote:
Earl Hamer, 403 Rosewood Dr., St. Joseph, IL 61873 was assigned
to the USS Union AKA 106 during the Korean War from March 3, 1951
October 24, 1954.
If any reunion comes up for this amphibious attack and transport
ship, he would like to know about it.
Earl is hoping to find buddies James Silacci of Santa Rosa,
California and Wayne Hull from Bakersfield, California.
The USS Union AKA 106 was redesignated as an LKA 106 in the
1960s. Any help you can give Earl will be appreciated.
Best wishes,
