Comments: my boyfriend worked with the comdr of the ship in Pebble beach ca, the cmdr gave him a cap. He has many pictures of the Uss Tortuga and is building a library to it's memory. Can you give me his name again? I don't want to embarass myself by asking my boyfriend again, but I think he would like to give the comdr a gift as a thank you.

Comments: I'm very pleased to find this site.
I caught up with The Turtle in Inchon Harbor, Dec. of '51. A couple weeks after the second landing at Inchon. Chased her from Washington DC. Served aboard untill late March '53.
I have some pictures from that time. Bow on shot of her in drydock at Hunter Point, during her overhaul. Some of the stuff we carried in the well deck from 'Frisco to San Diego. Etc.

Comments: I would like to commend all the volunteers who have contributed thier time and expertise to make this great web site possible. Just checking in to see if the USS Tortuga LSD-26 & the USS Gonston Hall LSD-5 had been added to your list of Amphibious ships that played a vital role in the Korean conflict. Keep up the good work, and a 'Well Done" to all!

Comments: I helped take the USS Tortuga, LSD 26, out of mothballs in mid 1950 in San Diego. I am not surprised that there are no record of it. We were all sort of non enities at that time. I have a sort of history of the ship 1950-1951 that the exec made up for us. In it it gives all the details of the time I spent on it.

The USS Tortuga was very active during the Korean War. I have pictures
of USS Small after temporary Bow put on. The USS Tortuga LSD 26 escorted
her to Midway.
Most pictures were of her under way. Close up and further out. if you
have any information on who might be intrested let me know and I'll
send them the pictures. At least five and maybe six.
We have a lot of picture's of the Tortuga in Operation in Korea,
including Junk's in the Well Deck.
We were in the invation of Inchon, korea. I would appreciate you putting
our name of our ship Tortuga LSD 26 onto the list of names that were
present in Korea in 1950 on. I spent all of 51 in Korea and Japan.

My old ship the USS Tortuga LSD-26. It was brought to my attention by a
good ship mate Richard Bowman, that served on the Tortuga, that there
is no mention of the Tortuga on your Korean history.
The Tortuga did play a prominent role in the Conflict. I just thought I
would bring this to your attention. Copy of message in question
enclosed. Tortuga history also enclosed. Please excuse a very long
message, but thought you might like to be enlightened. Please take the
time to read the complete history, I think you will find it very
interesting, especially her last days.
