Comments: My father was sworn into the Corps on the steps of the courthouse in St. Louis MO. February 1953.
Bootcamp at Pendelton, Sea School at San Diego, then assigned to USS Toledo.
1955 was transferred to Chicago/Great Lakes for discharge in February 1956.
Passed away August 1995. When I was a child, people would ask me if my father was ever in the service. After I replied yes, they would tell me "I thought so - he carries himself like a U.S. Marine."
And that he was.

Also, anyone having photos of the crew from that time period, Eli would love to have some momentos of his service.

Comments: My dad served on the USS Toledo in 1959. I am looking for anyone that might have known him. His name is Arno K. Pollock and he was from Duncan, Oklahoma. I think he might have been a mechanic, but am not sure.
Any information would be appreciated.

Comments: My son went aboard the ship when it was being cut up for scrap in Long Beach. He brought back the upper part of the ddo to the First Sergeant's Office. I have had it in my garage for 25 years. I donated it to the Marine recruiting office in Toledo, Ohio. I will bring it to the San Antonio reunion in the first wek of October, before sending it to Toledo. Wayne Wheeler (sgt) 1953-1955

The inscription is from "Garry". It was edited by Ensign Robert Jewett and contains photos by Dughdale, Miller and Blakely. We invite any crewmember who would like to have this book--at no charge--to email us.

heading USS TOLEDO CA-133. How do I address this Shipmate to answer
his query.
I do not have any information regarding Gordon Liptak, but can
certainly tell him about the USS TOLEDO CA-133, having served on
her for seven years (1949-56).
Thank you for your anticipated input.

Here is all I know about him so far (that is relevant). His name is

He lives in the western portion of North Carolina. He said he was
aboard it when it was struck by three torpedoes at once.
He also said he had a gun shot-out from underneath him.
