Anyone who knew Vernon Kennedy

Comments: If anyone knew my Father, Vernon Kennedy, I would appreciate an email. I know he was on the USS Toledo during the Korean War. He may have been on the Kearsarge as well. The V.A. cannot find anything on him and most of his records were destroyed in the big St. Louis fire back in the 60's Please email me if you have any information. Nothing is too trivial.

Thank You.

Comments: Looking for group pictures or anyone who knew my father William "Billy" Anzengruber. I know he played baseball while serving over in Italy. He did two tours with the Navy. I found a card with the ship name dated 1949 about crossing the equaker.

He never spoke about his time in the Navy, not sure why. I never pressed for more information. If there are any group/team pictures that are flowing around, I would love to see them.

He served on the U.S.S.TOLEDO between 1948-52 and like so many of you...I am trying to locate anything to display at his upcoming memorial and to honor for generations to come. My family has a couple of photos with him and a couple of buddies sitting at a table with some Philipine ladies...but it is faded pretty bad.

Thanks & God bless! Randy

Does anyone else remember seeing the only flight of the Spruce Goose in Long Beach Harbor in 48'? Does anyone know where I can find a picture of the SC-1, SCOUT. It was a Curtis Seaplane, our first two on the Toledo were the "Scotch" and "Soda". I was in the 1st Division and my involvement with the "Scotch" and "Soda" was pulling Helmsan for their take-offs and landings.

Comments: Hello, I am a junior at the University of Toledo in Ohio. My grandfather served on the USS Toledo for at least most of his naval career of 8 years and I know he was discharged in 1956. We can't get any stories out of him and when we ask (my whole family says that if anyone can get the stories from him, it's me) he tears up real bad and starts breathing funny. All I know is that he was in Inchon and that he was in two different helicopters that got shot down and he was always near some of the big guns that have caused him to have permanent hearing loss. I have a 10 page paper to write for my history class due at the end of the semester and I was hoping you might be able to tell me some of the stories. I really want to know more about what my grandpa did. I know he was awarded several medals but he never collected them and won't even tell us what ones they are. His name is Robert Leach. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Barbara Huffman

Comments: Many years since my first entry, and nobody from T DIV or CR DIV has contacted me. I joined the Toledo in 1951 after recommisioning the USS Goss, DE-444, with ET striker attached to my name. T-DIV officer Robert Doxey would not rate anyone who was not a service school graduate, so I transferred to CR Division where I finished out my enlistment in September, 1953, courtesy of ALNAV 46, which let me out two months early. I raised a family of four (2 and 2), was widowed, remarried and now have a 19-year-old daughter in College and a 15-year-old son in High School. Life is good on the West Side of Los Angeles, and I've finally stopped dreaming that I am back aboard the Toledo . . . wandering around, lost as usual. Web page at: http://www.bsamstag.com
