Comments: My grandfather John Gordon Fenner served on the USS Taluga. I'm looking for any info or stories or photos from any one who may have been on the ship from commission to sometime in 1946. The Kamikaze attack happened on my Grandfather's b'day we have never been sure why but he received the meatball from the kamikaze and had many of the shipmates sign it. We still have it and would love to hear from anyone.

Comments: I was hoping to contact Mr. Robert Saunders, U.S. Navy, who is listed at your website as a four-year Veteran who served aboard the US USS Taluga (AO-62) from 1951 to 1955. I was wondering if this gentleman hails from Lansing, Michigan. If there is any way this query can be forwarded to him, it would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
CWO-5 John L. Harrison, Sr., U.S. Army, Retired

Comments: My name is James Thone.
I would love to hear from anyone who served on the USS Taluga during 1950 & 1951.
I ran one of the fuel tanks over in Long Beach harbor. We had to throw lots of straw into the bay to clean up the spill.

He's sadly passed away from ALS in 1992, and I am working on our family tree. Would be greatly interested if anyone had any info on his time on board, stories etc. Thanks!

Comments: I was on the Taluga as a PN from 1971 until we decommissioned her and the navy gave the Taluga to the Greek Navy. Lost touch with old friends after that. The ships personnel melted the ships bell and made award plaques which I won one in the final cerimony drawing. The ships motto "Always Ready" and AO62 are cast and attached to oak shield.
