Comments: Had several good cruises aboard the old "T". When Capt Baker was in command we won several "E"s and an "O"Seems like we also during my stay had a commanding officer by the name of O'Brian, nick named "LiverLips".I remember he would always get on the ships speakers "This is the CO" etc...Well this CCO Capt in the marines one day got on the ships speakers " This is the CCO ,..etc.." needless to say he got into hot water for that. Capt O'Brian wasn't as well liked as Capt Baker. ...Cecil Reed RM1

Comments: I spent a while in 1955 on the Talladega. I remember the penuckle games under the LCVP's,(only place we jarheads could stay out of the Navy's way) like the other poster mentioned and like him I too spent about 5 months in Balboa Naval Hosp.Just wanted to say Hi to anyone that spent time on the "208" back in the fifties. I got to thinking about the good old days and googled the ship and came up with this site. Semper Fi buddies! Wally

George F. Silvia served as a Damage Controlman on the Talladega during the Korean War. He is in very poor health and I would like to pass along any messages from fellow shipmates. I believe his time in the Navy was the happiest of his life.

Comments: I am trying to find people who served with my father as a Christmas present to him.
His name is Larry D. Rader and he was a corpsman on board the USS Talladega from late 1957 to 1959. At the time he was from Crowell, TX.
He is alive and well and probably the same as he was then :)
I would love to put you in touch with him!
If you knew him, please email him and I will put you in contact with him after Christmas. I will be great to hear from you, I can't wait to share this website with him!
God Bless,
Stephanie Rader

Tina Ratcliffe wrote on 2005-09-24 00:00:00.0
Comments: I just found this site. I was recently at an auction and purchased a 19x15 framed picture of the USS Talladega inscribed with James Keener SN. At the same auction I also purchsed his Meritourious service metal, ribbons and presentation box. I do not know anything about the gentleman that these things belonged to. My father was a US Army Air Corps Ranger in WWII and would never give up his metals or any other memento that he hung onto from the war. I purchased the items, because for some reason it bothered me that they were being sold like useless yardsale goods. I was wondering if anyone knew James W. Keener or could tell me how to find out who he was. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Tina M. Ratcliffe PhoenixMoonChild@Hotmail.com

He was a member of the San Diego Fleet Reserve and VFW Post 9. He serve on the Talladega as a MAA during the Korean War. His rate at retirement is unknown to me.

I am trying to find some info and pictures on the USS Talladega,
LPA/APA 208. My Dad says it was a APA but I found it listed as an LPA
and that it was scrapped in 1976.
My father was on it between approximately 1952-1955 during the Korean
War/Conflict. He was a line officer and I am trying to put together
some info for his retirement party in 4 weeks (March 14).
Any help you can give me on where to get photos (digital preferred),
Reunions, how to contact other members of the USS Taladega, etc.
would be greatly appreciated. Pass this message on to anyone that you
think could help.
Thanks,
