Many great memories, great guys. Remember replacing the gun mount in Malta (all 5 levels). Remember the Coke bycicle give-away in Naples. Tire tracks all over the 01 deck. Who was that guy flying a kite over the harbor on a copper wire interfering with the radars? Remember pulling storm chains and hauling ass to get to Malta. Only a couple days and then - crabs everywhere in the Deck Div forward berthing. Remember the Newport News shipyard - more trading you never saw. Remember the Git-Mo cruise to deliver icecream and lobster. Who "salted" the boilers? Ole baldie blew his top. Sorry he had to go. We ate tube steak and hamberger for months to buy bunker oil for the trip. However, we were in "fine" spirits after St Thomas. All the way back. Everyone had a few tucked away for the long trip.

Comments: I served on the "Shitty Shan" '65-67. Two Med crusies and a Caribbean crusie. I was discharged in April '67 as MA2 (Machine Accountant ...later changed to DP). I was among the first MAs to report aboard ship and all the old salts keps asking what the hell was that rating we wore! They have never seen a gear with a feather thru it!

Comments: My dad is very interested in learning of a reunion for his ship the USS Shenandoah. I've been doing some research but have had little luck. He served during the Cuban Missil Crisis. His name is Earl "Bud" Reese.
Any help would be appreciated.

Keywords: WHILE READING THE NJ LEGIONNAIRE PAPER, I SEE THAT A REUNION OF THE SHENANDOAH AD-26 IS TO BE HELD AND HELP IS NEEDED TO IDENTIFY FORMER CREW MEMBERS. MY BROTHER, THOMAS C. DYER, SERVED ABOARD THE USS SHENANDOAH AD-26 IN THE EARLY 50'S (1951-54?) AS A FIREMAN. TOM LIVES IN WORCESTER, MA AND IS RETIRED. IF YOU WANT HIS ADDRESS, CONTACT ME ON E-MAIL AND I'LL SEND IT TO YOU. I'VE SERVED AS PRES OF THE PHIL SEA ASSN FOR THE PAST 12 YEARS AND I KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO CONTACT FORMER CREW MEMBERS.
