Comments: I believe my stepfather Carl L. Albert was on the Rupe sometime during the Korean War. I believe he was a Machinists Mate. He never talked much except about "port calls" in various places and getting into trouble with the brass a time or two during his service. He passed in September 1995, and at his wake, a stranger approached my brothers and I, explaining that he had seen the obituary in the St. Louis newspaper. He told a story about some kind of damage to a ship, believed to be the Rupe, during the war, stating that Dad had pulled several people to safety. If any of this makes any sense to anyone, please don't hesitate to reply. Thanks so much!

Comments: I am sorry, I know this is a Korean War site, but I am looking for people that served with my dad on the Rupertus in Vietnam. I would love to be able to connect him with some old friends. He was stationed on board as an ASROC specialist around 64-66 under Captain VanSickle and then Captain Burke.

Comments: My papaw served aboard the USS Rupertus during the late 40's early 50's. His name was Calvin Lynch, I don't know exactly what he did, as he died when I was 3, but granny and dad say he talked about mopping the decks all the time and painting. If anyone out there served w/ him please get in touch w/ me as I would like to know what you remember of him.

Thanks and God Bless

Comments: My Uncle Bob, Commander Robert A. Hoolhorst, was a Commander of the USS Rupertus between 1951-1953. When we would have our monthly lunch dates, he would speak very fondly about the Rupertus. He talked about the reunion efforts that were being made.I am sad to report that he died in July of 2003 at the age of 90 and I miss him dearly. I know that he would want to send out his last Ahoys to the Officers and crew of that great ship. Cherie Ross

Comments: I need to update on my last message I wrote. My dad served on the Rupertus in the later parts of the 40's. He was on the ship when they got out the diplomats and inportant people out of Tsingao China before it fell to the communist. The Navy knew my dad as Homer Carl Smith but his real name is Carl Homer Smith. I was looking through some of his stuff collected from being in China the other day. I hope to find some more pictures of the Rupertus and have them scanned in and put on one of these web sights so all you good veterans can enjoy them. Carl Homer Smith passed away Feb. 23, 1998. If any of his old shipmates are still out there I would like to hear from you. Thanks
