Anyone remember my dad? |

Sandra Palais-Shannon wrote on 2009-10-07 19:06:55.0
Comments: My father, Norman "Norm" Palais was on the USS Rooks from 1951-53. He passed away in 1989. I heard stories for years and I saw a million pictures he had taken and he always said, "That was when you joined the Navy and really saw the world". The only place he never got to that he truly wanted to see was New Zealand. We were supposed to go for my college graduation and he passed away suddenly of a heart attack a year before. Every picture I have seen of him during those years he is smiling and looks happy. If anyone remembers him or could share some stories with me, please contact me here. Thanks!

Anyone remember my father - Robert Muse? |

Robert Muse wrote on 2009-01-15 10:03:32.0
Comments: My father, Robert Lee Muse, was a Fireman on the Rooks from 52-54 I believe. Also as I understand it, a Gunner when needed. He spoke fondly of all his crew mates and if anyone knew him, or has any photos they could email or send with him, I know my mother would appreciate it. Trying to get all info I can for her.
My dad passed away at age 76 of Congestive Heart Failure in December of 2002. He was a Fireman for the City of Florence, AL for 30 years as well as a Tile mason and an avid fisherman here on the Tennessee River in North Alabama...He did say that after serving in Korea, he never would eat any seafood after that.
Thanks Robert Muse Jr.

Comments: Was Tele2/c on board till early '52. didn't have enough time on enlistment to go on World Cruise, but learned of the exploits later from Ken Akin and John Roger Dale Kelly who were Radarmen during the tour. I understand that they went along on a Fire control mission ashore at night to direct shelling on Railroad Yards. I am now a lawyer in Rockport, Texas. Any info. on Lt, Havener, Mills, Alexander, or Mr. Smirthwaite? Glad to read about the involvement of the USS Rooks.
