Comments: Hello, I am searching for crewmates of my grandfather withwhom served on the USS Quincy during the Korean War. He often speaks of how he helped take the ship out of mothballs in Bremerton, Washington. As these are my Grandfathers fondest memories, I would like to find someone who has served with him (who possible knows him, or knew him back then). Hopefully I am successful.

Comments: Hi! I am looking for ANY info on the Quincy. After 3 1/2 years aboard the USS Missouri during the Korean war, my Dad finished his enlistment aboard the Quincy. I'd like to find out whatever I can so I can pass this along to him. If I read correctly, it would seem the Quincy is no longer around. I'd hoped to see if it were available for public tours as I JUST returned from seeing the USS Missouri for the first time & wanted to see my Dad's "other ship" too! If anyone can tell me if there is a website for the ship or former crew members I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Comments: My brother, Philip Eugene Silcox, was on the USS Quincy on the tour to Korea in the 50's. I think he would still like to be on it. Once Navy always Navy. If you ever have a reunion let me know and I will let him know. He lives near Cullman Alabama.

Comments: I was assigned to the CR Division (Radioman) of the USS Quincy as one of the many recommissioning crew and served aboard for a little less than two years. After recommissioning the Quincy in Bremerton WA, Arming in Bangor WA, Outfitted in Oakland CA, she proceeded to the Panama Canal and then to the Caribbean. She was based in Guantanamo Cuba, for training and shakedown. on completion she sailed to Norfolk VA for outfitting and damage repair having damaged the Starboard outboard screw on one of the Locks at the Panama Canal. At completion she made passage to the North Atlantic participating in one of the first NATO combined fleet exercises. She then completed her European tour as COMCRUDIV 6 in the Mediterean with the Sixth Fleet participating in several NATO exercises. Returning to the US she was re-assigned to the Pacific Fleet and was based in San Pedro CA. She was assigned to the 7th Fleet. I left her in California on TDY to the USS Los Angles. It is my understanding she recieved a US Naval Survey while in Korea and was deemed "unfit" for further active service and was decommissioned.
Side Bar note : She was broken up in Portland Oregon where I live.... I watched her being scrapped.
