LANSINGBURGH Thomas L. Parnell, 70, of Third Avenue in Lansingburgh, died on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at the Memorial Hospital in Albany after a brief illness.
He was born in Plattsburgh on June 22, 1937, and was the son of the late Bernard and Genevieve LaWare Parnell.
He was educated in the Lansingburgh School system and was a U.S .Navy veteran, serving from 1954 until being honorably discharged Nov. 9, 1962, as a petty officer/store keeper. He served aboard the USS Purdy during the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam.
He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. (Peggy) Collins Parnell, who he married on April 20, 1963.
Tom retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island where he had been a time keeper, having worked for Ford for over 23 years. Earlier he had worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in Troy and he had also worked for The Record.
He was an active communicant of St. Augustines Church in Lansingburgh. He had been a volunteer with the church food pantry, the bingo committee and the school bazaar. He was a member of the United Auto Workers of America local 930.
In addition to his wife Peggy, Tom is survived by his four devoted daughters, Catherine M. (James) DiBernardo of Clifton Park, Cynthia A. (Jody Williams) Parnell of Jacksonville, FL, Kimberly A. (Rene Mullen) Parnell of Watervliet and Jennifer M. Parnell of Lansingburgh; brother of James (Lena) Parnell of Troy, Violet Acevedo of Troy, Mazie (Jose) Borrero of Troy and the late Bernard (Chuck) Parnell and Donald Parnell; cherished grandfather of Zachary Chiera of Lansingburgh, Jennifer DiBernardo and Michael DiBernardo both of Clifton Park and Marisa Mullen of Watervliet. He also is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Saturday morning at 11:45 from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park, thence to St. Augustines Church in Lansingburgh where at 12:30 p.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Waterford.
