Looking For Memories Of My Father

Comments: I have several artifacts from The Piedmont when my father served - a small ashtray and a very heavy ship plaque cast iron mounted on wood with Doc on it carrying a ruck sac and holding a torch. I believe he provided legal services for the sailors aboard ship. I would like some details or even photos if anyone has them or remembers serving with him. Sadly he passed away in 1995.

Comments: My father is Dr. Steve Bailey and he was on the USS Piedmont I believe in the late 60s or early 70s. Unfortunately, Body is being held hostage in Probate Court while we wait to determine if I his only daughter is sole heir or if "A common law wife" is. Comments: RM 2 with the flag, calls sign P3U9 L5S7 and served 6 months on each ship out of Sasebo, Japan and set off of Pusan with 90 of us in communications handling material for all representatives in Korea. Remember the Piedmont for "Red Rider" Captain passed over. Had us on water hours, holly stoning deck, and bugs in all the food. Threw all the food out one night and cooked and entire new meal, Admiral of Flag, things got a little better. Anyone remember that?

Comments: I served on the Piedmont as a Radarman from 1950 to to about 1954. I would like to from George R. Johnson, James Ely, and Joe Feldt (Felt). Our immediate officer was Ensign Richard Parfitt, the most intelligent, admirable, and honorable officer I met during the Korean waw. Our first class petty officer was Robert Crowley, fair minded and smart. Homer DeVan whose was a fellow radarman died a few years ago.

Did you know my dad?

Comments: I am looking for anyone that may have served on the USS Piedmont with my dad. He served on the Piedmont from July 11, 1952 to March 15, 1954. My dad passed away in 1989 and I never learned much about his Navy life. He was from Michigan and he was a boxer for the Navy. KOREA - INCHON BAY G.M. 'JIM' 'TEX' REEVES - RIP

Comments: My dad was on the USS Piedmont during the Korean War. He let the anchor down in Inchon Bay on orders. I would like to know if there is anyone out there that remembers him. He is from Merkel, Texas, and joined the Navy in 1945.

Editor's note: we received notice of Jim's death from Karen on July 31st. Here is her message:

Just to let you know that my dad, G. M. "Jim" Reeves, Jr. passed away on July 20, 2001 from complications of a stroke.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and always very proud of his service. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Piedmont and was the one who set the anchor at the Inchon Bay landing on his ship. He said he was waiting for the command to lower anchor and thought his superior was going all the way inland.

If anyone remembers him, I would love to talk to them.
