Comments: i remember the korean war very good. i was on the faintail the day the acraft took a bombing raid and he got hit by a shell. that evening i went to my engine room and thought i drop by sick bay thats when i found out the polit got killed. it was only abut three days before the end of the war.

USS New Jersey S-3 Div. l952-l956

Comments: I worked in the S3 Division,USS New Jersey BB 62(Laundry Room)Night Shift from 1952 untill l955.Then the Tailor shop for the remainder of my tour, May 28th 1956 was discharged. My Battle station was on a 40mm gun mount, during the Korean conflict. My duty station, was driving a military vehicle,on base in Norfolk,while the ship was in port, for the military officers. While we were in port in Spain I drove to one of the Airports to pick up mail for the crew. During the Koren War I remember when a F4-U got shot down and our Helicopter picked up the Pilot and got him on board the USS New Jersey before a USS Destroyer could get to him.I think we set a record in that action. For me it was some experiance to get 3/4 around the world on board the USS New Jersey.A Duty I was proud to serve for the United States of America.

Comments: servered aboard the jersey from october 1950 to august, 1954. helped remove the plastic like material that was sprayed on the gun turrets. she was in bayonne at that time. went to the reunion in september,2002. she is in camden now. i was the engineer of the captian,s gig from 1952 until the day i was discharged, which was august, 1954.the main deck is in very bad conditio, but she still looks tough.

LOOKING FOR NEWJEWRS VETS 54/55/56..... S-3 DIV

Comments: I have beenlooking to get in touch whith some of the gang that I served whith. No luck so far I Left the ship in 56/ getting my discharge from the newjerseyI left Norfolk and never looked back got home married the little gal that waited for me we had two daughters , I worked 33 years in a local steel mill retired in 90 and went to work for my son inlawso things went pretty much for us as I'm sure they did for alot of guys. I tried to keep up whith the ships movements but only in the last four months I made contacts whith other vets trying to find their buddies. My ship is now opened as a memorial at Camden NJ , WE Are planning a trip in May of this year to take a good look at this old gal one more time, Ihope to see some of the guys then.Take care and God bless all the guys and gals that are serveing this great country of ours....

Comments: Now Hear This!

Attention former BB-62 crewmen, the Battleship New Jersey was opened to the public as a museum on October 15, 2001 on the Delaware River in Camden, NJ. For more information go to www.ussnewjersey.com.

The USS New Jersey Veterans Association plans to hold there reunion onboard the ship on September 12-16, 2002. For more information check out their website at www.ussnewjersey.org.
