Comments: 1973. 2 captains- EE Lord III, Harris. XO-LtComdr Hansen. I was Radarman 1st Class. Payload-over 6000 tons. Port Chicago, CA. Operated out of Sasebo & rearmed near Wonsan Harbor. Friends - Q-Ch Mike Ganitch, Q-1st Cl Clarence Prince, Q-Ch Davis, Q- Warnholt, Perez; radarmen-Rosencrantz, Waltee, radiomen- Pheanis, Heffernan, Gresham, Gonzales, Coleman; Elect. Tech.-Zabbo, Robert Allen, Whitmire (can see faces but forget names) 46 years ago. Also stopped in Subic Bay PI, Pearl Harbor, San Diego, Hong Kong, Yokosuka, Inchon, Tiajuana, San Francisco, Port Chicago, Mares Head.

USS Mt. Katmai (AE-16)

Comments: I decommissioned the USS Mt. Katmai (AE-16) on July 13th of 1973. I was stationed onboard for a very short time, but it was my first Navy ship I was stationed on.

My Father

Comments: I was just wondering if there was possibly anyone out there that my dad might have known. I have just begun to look for information on Mt. Katmai. That is how I found this place. I would appreciate anyone's efforts who might be able to tell me where I could go to find a picture of this ship for my dad. I would also appreciate it, if anyone out there happens to remember Howard Householder, would you please let me know. It would be a great surprise for him.

Comments: I am writing my dads history. He transferred from the USS UVALDE AKA 88 to the USS MOUNT KATMAI AE 16 on 21 October 1958. His report date was 29 December 1958. What do the letters AE indicate? What did the MOUNT KATMAI do after Korea? My dad passed on 14 April 1989.

Mount Katmai

Comments: i was serving aboard the Valley Forge and the Mount Katmai AE-16 was our ammo. ship . I remeber it well because I had enlisted with my buddy " Herb Wharmby" 2 years prior and the next time I saw him he was on the bridge of the Mounty Katmai.
