Comments: I served on the USS McNair from 1955-1959. I worked in the boiler room and was a ship's cook and ship's baker. Originally from Somers Point, NJ, and now living in Detroit,I am looking for any and all of my shipmates to reminisce with and share memories of our cruises before I leave this earth. It would mean a lot to me.

Comments: I have had the fortunate adventure and continue to read of the unbelievable experiences my father had in the Navy from 1952 1955 through the letters he wrote home as often as he was able to and with as much money as he could afford to help his widowed mother and three siblings.
When my father and mother divorced I was fortunate enough to claim 48+ letters my 17-20-year-old-father wrote to his mother chronicling his first adventure out of Wisconsin and traveling around the world. Each time they are read, new and overwhelming stories emerge and I have decided, as a novelist, to weave them into my next novel. As such, I have begun researching all things concerning the 1950s, the Korean war, Naval ships and the political and economical times that shaped my fathers unwavering and financial determination to join the Navy at aged 16 and to venture for the first time beyond the farm lands of the midwest.
Besides his letters, I also have The Keel United States Naval Training Center, Great Lakes Illinois, Co. 25, 1952 yearbook as well as The Bluejackets Manual, 14th edition published by the United States Naval Institute in Annapolis, Maryland in 1950. I am planning on visiting the USS Iowa in Vallejo, CA in 2 weeks and have studied many battleship manuals in preparation.
I would love to hear from anyone who has any information about the life aboard Naval vessels between 1952 and 1955 and am more than happy to share what I have from my father through these textbooks and his private postings.

A Fine Bunch Of Men! |

Comments: My Dad: Richard B. Weischedel served on the USS McNair in the Korean War. He passed away on May 28 1999 of Lung Cancer. With the stories he has told me growing up I learned about the Navy, it's tactics, the lingo, and the nicknames of certain parts of a ship. Oh and something cute, I learned real quick not to call or refer to the McNair as a BOAT! I would like to share with his shipmates on how he complimented you all on being a fine bunch of men.

Comments: I would love to communicate with anyone who knew my dad or my Uncle Bobby Duso from the ship the USS McNair. I am especially interested in talking with anyone who might have worked with my dad in the boiler rooms, who might have gone on shore leave with my dad, or who remembers the story of my dad falling overboard from his ship during rough seas.

Comments: My dad Paul Floyd Young Lt.jg (Deceased 5/5/1972) served on and commanded Crestview in mid 1950's stationed in Key west Florida. Registers indicate this hull number was never completed but I have a picture of it underway on patrol. He also served on U.S.S. Mcnair DD679 during Korea war. Anyone who knew my dad on either of these ships or attended Annapolis with him (1952 +/-) Please let me know. He has three sons and a daughter who would love to learn more about him. Thanks Derrick Y.

Comments: I am distantly related to Admiral McNair, for whom USS McNair was named and I'm interested in any information, recollections or pictures that anyone might have regarding this ship. I have been on USS Kidd at Baton Rouge, a near sister, but I'm looking for experiences or pictures regarding McNair.
Thanks
