Jones, Jr. He was a Chief Petty Officer aand servmostly aboard Destroyers, specifically aboard the USS McDermut, but also another destroyer which hit a mine in or anround the China Sea. We used to have a photo of the damaged ship, but it was lost in my parent' divorce. The spelling of the ship is USS McDermut unless I have lost my mind and maybe I have. Correct me please if anyone has it right for sure cause I thought I did. We were involved in the Cuban Crisis. The USS McDermott helped escort the Marines to Panama where they prepared to attack Cuba if necessary. We went on liberty after they entered the canal. He has passed away, but his log lives on within my on children. We did not know how much he thought of his command and ship, however, my son now has a model of the ship and a gold plaque. I remember one of his friends who was also aboard the ship, an Art Wolski from Michigan. As a child, I knew him as uncle Art. I believe he suffered an injury from the ship being topedoed.
