Comments: Would like name suggestions for the most respected officer and enlisted Korean War veterans, based on their naval service during the Korean War. Looking for individuals capable of speaking at a conference about their experiences during 1950-53 time period.

Comments: I served on the LSMR404 from 5/51 to 8/54 including two tours to Korea. I was a GM2 at discharge. I am working on a book describing the development, construction, and operational use of this class of ship. I am planning a reunion sometime/somewhere in Year 2000. I have found 43 members of the crew of whom 27 were enlisted, 8 were officers and 8 are deceas

I'll send you some details on the 404 operations. Are you aware of the
LSM/LSMR Assocation? We have currently about 2500 members and hold a
class wide reunion every year in early Sept.
This years was in New Orleans. About 900 attended! We are bringing
LSM 45 from the Greek Navy to the Freedom Park Naval Museum in Omaha,
NE as we speak. It should be underway (by push tug) from New Orleans
to Omaha Now.
Contrary to what a sailor ffom the LSMR 412 says, there were always
three of us in the Korean theater and six more enroute to WesPac or in
the States.
Also, I suggest you contact Col. Ben S. Malcom, USA (Ret) and read his
book titled "White Tigers" about his activities on the west coast of
North Korea leading the UNPIK (Partisan Forces). In "52,'53, and
even'54, LSMRs were part of his support in these activities. Since his
was an "Agency" activity, even we didn't know that was what our firing
missions were for!
