Anyone who knew Albert Silveira |

Mark Johansson wrote on 2007-02-06 16:04:01.0
Comments: Comments: Albert Silveira, my father in law, passed away on January 27, 2007. My wife and I would like to hear from anyone who served with him. He served on the seaplane tender USS Kennith Whiting and the destroyer USS Thompson during the Korean war. He also did underwater demolition. He was injured in 1951 or 1952 when the Thompson was hit by fire from shore. He will be interred at the National Cemetery at Santa Nella, CA.
Thanks, Mark & Barbara Johansson

He was injure on September 6th, 1944. My father have been deceased for more than several years now and would not talk about his navy duties or what happened to him. Do you happen to know what happened on the Whiting that day?

Besides Iwakuni was one fine place to be initiated into the mysteries of the Orient. Can't make the reunion this year bedcause of other commitments, but will try to plan for next year.

So far there have been six annual reunions for the Kenneth Whiting crew.
These reunions are very well done and well attended. Many of the plank

year's reunion is going to be held in May, 1999 at Lancaster, PA. The
reunion host is George Woods.

Hi Shipmate,
My name is William A. Brink and I served on the good ship Kenneth
Whiting on the 53-54 cruise to Iwakuni, Japan. During this time frame,
we made several trips to Sangley Point, Sasebo, and Yakishima island.
Most of our cruise was spent in Iwakuni Bay where we supported VP-47.
I was transferred to the Kenneth Whiting from VR-3 sometime in 52 or 53
and served in the V-3 division. My rate at that time was AE-3. From the
Kenneth Whiting I was transferred TAD to VP-47 for several months.
I made second class in VP-47. After VP-47, I returned to the Kenneth
Whiting for the remainder of the cruise. We returned from Iwakuni late
in the year of 1954 and I was transferred to VS-21 at Brown Field.
Other plank owners that I am in e.mail contact with are:
John Potthoff jonpott@flash.net
"Hal L. Akridge" paiha331@surfsouth.com
These old Sailors are plank owners and are in touch with many of the
past crew members. They would be happy to hear from any one with
interest in the good ship U.S.S.Kenneth Whiting AV14.
