Comments: Trying to locate Gloria Beasley regarding her uncle who was a pilot in VF93 on the same cruise. She wants info on port of call so she can know more about some pictures he had taken. Entry 38494 and 37101. Ensign Buddy Nichols was a member of VF93 at that time. I have a "Cruise Book" which includes 2 pictures of him with his squadron. Lt.J.Nichols died in March of 1955 in plane accident. She had 2 entries #38494 and 37101 requesting info. I would like to send some of the highlights of that cruise if she can be located per USS Hornet(CVA-12)-US Navy-Korean War Project.

Comments: My dad, C.R. "Whitey" Chidester served on the USS Hornet CVA-12 in the 1950's. I think he was on the World Cruise. He passed away in June of 1977. Would love any one who knew my dad to contact me and tell me about him, their experiences with him, whether or not they were friends, or close friends, etc.
I barely remember being on the Carrier as it was being rebuilt in the early 1950's in what may have been the Bremerton, WA Ship Yard. I remember the wooden part of the deck at the shipyard. I was between 3 and 5 years old at the time, am now 56. Would love to hear from any of his former shipmates, thank you so much.
Appreciatively, John Chidester Westminster, CA

Comments: The Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Hornet CVA-12, first entered the Western Pacific in 1954 at the end of a Good Will Tour of several Southern European and Middle Eastern countries, passing through the Suez Canal enroute. On the morning of July 26 thirteen of her aircraft, were searching for survivors of a British aircraft that had been shot out of the skies by Chinese red aircraft just three days before. The rescue aircraft were attacked by two communist fighters off of Hainan Island, the two attckers were readily dispatched into the sea. At the time it was the hottest of "Cold War" incidents. Upon her return to Western Pacific waters in 1955, U.S.S. Hornet (The Grey Ghost), became a part of Task Force 77; Task Force 77 conducted training operations 30 August to 6 September 1955, simulating a limited war involving the invasion of a large strategic island friendly to the United States. It was known that the enemy had sufficient naval craft, troops, and air support to invade this island unless the U.S. Navy intervened.
