Comments: I am the editor of the USS Henley newsletter, the Henley STEAMER. I am looking for copy for our newsletter. The Henley was in Korean waters but did not see action in the war. This is the third USS Henley, the second was at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, got underway and fired at the attacking aircraft. That ship was later sunk by a Japanese submarine. Any information about the entire 30 year life of the USS Henley would be appreciated.

Comments: Greetings, My wife's uncle is a Korean War veteran but my reason for writing is simply to say hello. I experienced my first cruise as a reservist aboard the Henley in 1969. I would go on to serve two years aboard the ammunition ship USS Nitro AE-23. They were some experiences, not a day goes by that I don't have a thought about those days. Good luck to you and enjoy Veterans Day.

Ps: Is it possible to view the photographs R.J. Brooks refers to?

Hal & Ted,

Attached are a number of photographs of the U.S.S. Henley (DD-762).

These photographs were obtained from the U.S. Naval Photographic Center
the National Archives, or the US Naval Institute. Each of these
photographs was taken by a US Navy photographer, where available I have
given appropriate credit. Below is the information about each of these
photo's that I have available to me.

My interest in the Henley stems from my father, Ernest Brooks. My father
was stationed on the Henley from June 1957 to September 1958 as a
Firecontrolman working on the MK37 GFCS. He was injured in a line
handling accident in Naples, Italy in September 1958, an accident that
would eventually end his naval career two years later after
rehabilitation.

I realize that my father was not a Korean war veteran, nor are these
photographs from that time period, however I thought some quality
photo's of the ship might be a welcome addition to your web sight.
