Comments: Waw wounded 30 September 19540 when Mansfield hit a mine. Was transported to the USS Helena that night for care of head wound. Many pictures were taken by Helena pesonnel of our wounded. Comments: We are looking for veterans who were participated in Chang-Sa Dong Battle of Korean War in Sept.15 1950. Ou research shows that USS Endicott and Cruiser Helena (CA-75) operated as back up for the Korean Guerillas, who tried to attack the enemy on the seashore. We are looking for the testimonies of the veterans who witness the battle. Recently, there are a movement of Korean Veterans,who participate in the battle, which build up "A Memorial Tower' for those who could not retreat from the battle and lefted to die. He was a quiet man and didn't tell us much about his time in the war, but when he did speak of it, he held his head up high and he spoke just a bit louder then usual. We could tell he was very proud to have served on her with his buddies. His name was KENNETH WAYNE HARRIS (Buddy). And we're all proud of him.

I was the coxswain on the starboard whaleboat and also ran the liberty party boats when we anchored out. Hong Kong with an LCM was a real trip. I must have run over a half dozen sampans. My Dad served in early 50's

Comments: Daddy is now living with me in Tacoma Wa. He nearly died last year in a terrible car wreck and is still rehabing. he has shared memories of his stint on the Helena and would really enjoy hearing from anyone that knew him. I am trying to find something to spur his interest in computers as his only past time presently is reading readers digest. he struggles with depression as the accident left him barely able to get around.

Comments: Hello, My father Charles Forbes served onboard Helena in the early Fifties. He worked in deck then moved to S1. He use to hang out with a couple of guys named thomas and al. They worked out alot. I'm trying to also put a scrapbook together for him. He remembers the ship getting close into shore and taking shore batteries. Comments: Comments: I am looking for anyone who served on board the USS Helena with my Father David Buckner. I know very little about his service in Korea. I believe he was there in 1952 and '53. One fact I'm sure of is that he was on board when Eisenhower came on board to sail on the ship briefly. I became a History teacher when I graduated from college, and shortly after I began to teach the Korean War for the first time, my father passed away. Comments: I [Matt] ran across my father's [Ken W.] old entry here and have updated it for him. I love my dad: "My Dad, Kenneth S. Ockander CBM, served aboard Helena for several years before going on shore duty in late 1956. He was fired upon from shore batteries while on patrol off the Korean coast, but I think that he was on a mine sweeper, not the Helena. He took me aboard many times and I am still impressed firstly with how kind this Navy Brat was treated by the bluejackets and of course the majesty of the Helena herself. He left me with some cruise books and if this information could help anyone I'd be most happy to do what I can. I know Dad was on a fire control party and did the rigging for at sea refueling. It would be mean a lot for me to hear from any of his shipmates as I lost him to a heart attack when he was only 50 years old in 1969. Thank you!!"

Comments: My Grandfater Was Robert Girardin, He was a guners mate first class on the USS Helena CA 75. he passed away, and left to me his Task Force 77 Korea patch and some picthers of the ship and rank patches. If any one rembers my grandpa and can tell me more about Task Force 77 I would Love it Thank You.

William Ray Greene

Comments: Am looking for anyone who may have known a William Ray Greene from Gastonia North Carolina. Ray served aboard the USS Helena from 1956-1957. He was stationed in Long Beach and did a cruise to Japan or Hong Kong I think. Ray was a country boy and had a strong southern accent. He was also known as "Baby Face", has he had slipped into the Navy at the ripe old age of 16. He was killed some years ago and am trying to find as much info or photos of him for his widow. Comments: Would like to hear the full details of the "Phantom Pooper" that struck fear throught the dry dock stay. Was last hit on Starboard Quarter Deck?

I was assigned to First Division then went to S-1 after going through Laundryman School, Bayonne, NJ assigned to Tailor Shop.

Keywords: Helena and Toledo made up Crusier Division Three. Joined Helena just prior to Yard overhaul at Hunters Point, San Francisco, fall of 1950. Helena and Toledo were placed in same dry dock bow to bow (Chinese Landing?)

Remembrance For Kenneth Beaudoin

Comments: The Korean War My daughter wrote this poem for my Uncle Kenny Beaudoin and all the others who fought for our Country. The fire burns all through the night and in the morn the men will fight. A cause is given a cause is know and from the world great men are thrown. The Great will fall the evil will die and over the chaos the Raven's will fly Our Thanks we give is far to less when our boys went out and gave their best. So for those men who died in vain and those that suffered in their pain. For that boy's eyes that saw too much and for the men who forever lost touch. You all went out you all were brave, The men still living and those in his grave. Much Respect is given for sharing your love, and Thanking You because. You fought so hard and we shed our tears. And all together we faced our fears.

My Uncle Kenneth Beaudoin

Comments: I was just wonder if anyone out there knew my Uncle who served on the USS.Helena. His name was Kenneth Beaudoin, he is not on the memorial I guess because he died of Spinal Meningitis in Nov, Dec of 1952. If you knew him I'd like to hear from you, and if you know how I can get his name in the memorial I would like to know. To me he did die in the Korean War, even if it was in the States. I was only 3 years old when he died, I remember him and his funeral like it was yeaturday. I would like to hear from anyone who may of known Kenneth Beaudoin.. Debbie

Comments: Ifirst saw u.s.s. Helena(CA-75) IN SASEBO,Japan.I did not know GM3 Andy Anderson,however I was also a GM3 at that time, at that place.U.S.S. Helena (CA-75) had just pulled into port & was broadside to a sunset.I was 17,am now 67, & IT'S STILL A PICTURE IN MY MIND I NEVER FORGET.She was a most handsome ship.Thank you for the memory. Comments: Was on Helena from 10 Sept 1950 to 25 July 1951, then transfered to Flag, rode around on the Toledo for a while.
