Comments: My father served on U.S.S. Hector in the early '50s. He died in 1983. Does anyone remember him? I don't care if you hated him, I would just like to hear from you. Thanks
Richard Matthew

Comments: I notice many enquiries as to the final demise of the great ship USS HECTOR AR7. She was decommissioned in San Diego 31 March 1987 and leased to Pakastan on 20 April 1989 and renamed MOAWIN. The US regained custody of her in Singapore in 1994 and sold to Ruby Enterprises of India for scrapping. What a rudeful demise for such a splendid ship!! Hope this helps.......

Comments: Hi, I served aboard the Vulcan from March, 1952 until September, 1955 in the Repair Division in the big machine shop. My buddies were Carl Timm of Milwuakee, Jim O'Hara of Baltimore, Eli Pyevich of the Twin Cities, Nick Pelosi of NY and lots more good friends. I know the ship, after a long, if not one of the longest in-fleet services, has now been decommissioned. I sure would like to go a reunion of shipmates, Regards, Luke Dzwonczyk MR1

Comments: I am now 88 years of age, and believe I am the oldest sailor still living that served on this ship. My last ships reunion was at Harrisburg, PA. (possibly 1992). Bob Reist from North Star, MI was also aboard this vessel. He mentioned recently that he had heard that the USS HECTOR had been scrapped. Any information regarding this?

Comments: My uncle, Donald Henry Kleinhammer served on the USS Hector in the swupply corps as a Lt. SC prior to his death in November, 1951 of Cancer. I am seeking information on the ship such as dimensions, pupose and perhaps a picture. I would also like to know if this ship is still in existence. Any information on the USS Hector would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I served aboard the Hector right out of boot camp at San Diego. I boarded her in September, 1949 and left for service aboard the Mispillion around June, 1950. The Korean War broke out as we were servicing Eniwetok and other Marshall Island vessels in June.
The Mispillion was ordered to Sasebo,Japan to take on oil and petrol for the many U.S. Naval ships that had already arrrived from various parts of the globe. I was a radioman and would like to find old shipmates who served with me aboard her.
We were in many engagements during my 2 1/2 years on that tanker. Sure would be nice to contact old shipmates like Chief Croze, RM, Dillahay, RM, Bobbie Smith, RM, E.E. Erwin, RM. I was 18 years old when the shit hit the fan at the 38th. I am now 68.5 and health is bad. Thanks for this very neat program which I am sure has done so well to reconnect old soldiers and sailors. Comments: When I came back in to the service it was 1986, The ship that I was assigned to was the USS HECTOR AR7. I was and I still am an MR, I spent a year with the HECTOR, it was close to the end of 87 when the word came down that we were to disband the unit. I belive that the HECTOR was decommed in late 87 and then scraped in 88 sorry. All of the VULCAN Class have been decommed, I think we have one AR & one AS left in the navy I came back off a 45 day decom cruse on the USS MCKEE AS41 in aug/sept 99. We are losing a lot of ships with no replacements. I hope this will help.

Congratulations on your Korean War site. It is my first visit. I have
been e-mailing with a fellow Navy vet and we are trying to find info
about the USS Hector AR-7, I thought maybe I had found something in
your site under the US Navy vessel listings, I was disappointed not to
find a listing for the USS Hector.
I served two tours on her in Korea from 1951-1954. We were awarded
the Korean, UN medals with two stars.
Just a little Navy pride showing. Thanks and again your site is great.
Brings back a lot of memories some sad but mostly good.
