Comments: My grandfather, Gerald "Jerry" Guthrie, was on the USS Hector. I'm not sure when - sometime from 1948-1952. I believe he was an EM. If anybody remembers him, please email me. I'm currently following in his footsteps in the navy (as a Nuke MM) and am trying to find stories about his life at sea. Thanks!

Comments: Hi, I am looking for any information on my grandfather, Jack Morris. He served on the USS Hector twice, once as a torpedo man, and then doing something else during the Korean war. My grandmother also told me something about him being stationed in the New Hebrides, but that I cannot be sure about. If anyone has any information, please contact me.

If anyone remembers him or knows anything about him I would love to hear from you. I am his only child and my name is Iva Hyatt, and my Dad passed away in November of 1998. I would love to keep his memory alive by knowing so much more about him, I loved him so much. Thank you

Comments: I have been working on an extensive geneology project, studying my husband's family. I have notes of his grandfather, Arthur Robert Johnson being a commanding officer on the USS Vulcan from 1953 to 195 when he was sent to Yokohama. I also have a note that the ship moved from Newport, Rhode Island to Norfolk in 1953.
Can anyone confirm this information? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Comments: My father, Charles Ralph DeBord served on the USS Hector somewhere between 1944-1946. I know he went to Saipan while on board. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers him. He passed away 8/22/2001, and I am trying to get any information available. Someone on board was very kind to my dad concerning a personal matter at home while he was in the Navy. He never found out who the person was to thank him. His superiors knew about the favor and I feel certain that there would be a record somewhere, but I haven't a clue how to begin my search. Does anyone know what I'm talking about or know where I would begin to try and find out more? Any help would be greatly appreciated! God bless you!

Comments: Looking for shipmates from 1956-1959 I was in the forward engine room and late Auxiliaymen. Held the rank of Machinest Mate 2nd.class. Made 2 trips over to Japan. Reported aboard on my 20th birthday. Got out of the taxi looked up and said what a bithday present. How do I get aboard and was told right up here sailor. I was in the aftersteering going out and coming in. The only battles I saw was if someone was in trouble we would yell Hector and everyone would come running. The best officer was LT. Trodder our engineering officer.

Comments: My father was on the USS Vulcan AR-5 @ 1950-1952. The ship remained in Mystic CT during this time. He was Fireman (I think first class) and was going to learn to underwater weld but my older brother was born and also my Dad's two years were up. He has passed 8 years now but I still remeber some stories like how they made ash trays in the metal shop and being in the VERY VERY hot boiler rooms. If anyone knew Bill pleas send me an email, I would love to hear from you. Thank You Vetrans Greg Moulder GSMOULDER@yahoo.com

Congratulations on your Korean War site. It is my first visit. I have

find a listing for the USS Hector.
I served two tours on her in Korea from 1951-1954. We were awarded
the Korean, UN medals with two stars.
Just a little Navy pride showing. Thanks and again your site is great.
