Comments: My father was a pilot on the Hancock around 1954-1955. I don't know his squadron. Would love to hear from anyone who knew him. He passed away 2 yrs. ago and I'm putting together a book about his Military career and this is the only duty station I'm missing. Thanks!

Comments: Let's get in touch!

Keywords: Harold P. Smith. Bill Hendricks and Bill Langenberger all serve with me. I have been in touch with our skipper, Myron Alpert, in San Diego, and hope to get down there to visit him (He is 91). Can any of the top three get in touch with me. I would love that. We had wonderful experiences together back then.

Stuart, aka "the passenger."

Comments: How many of you remember the day we were rushed out of Gtmo for an emergency run to track down an unidentified contact? After a search we went to general quarters and fired a charge, bringing up our advisary - a palm tree! We then painted it on the side of our ship along with our other combat ribbons. We all felt that we should receive a combat ribbon titled the order of the palm!

Comments: I have to say that my grandfather was the best man I have ever known in my life time. He was a very smart man, he knew everything there was to know about sports. I love him very much and I miss him very much too. My grandfather passed away resently 3-3-01. It has been very hard on everyone in my life. I am writing because I think he should be remembered. He served in the Navy on the USS Lewis Hancock for 3 years. When i would go to his house he would always tell me stories about being on the ship. And I took that for granted, beacause he always used to say the same stories over and over again, and now I miss that very much. Life is to short. Live It and Love It.
