Keywords: I am trying to find out what year the Gunston Hall was acting as mother to a group of mine sweeps in Korea when the sweeps swept 168 mines from Wonson harbor. we had a helicopter aboard that rescued downed pilots and served as a mine field spotter. I am 87 and is hard to remember the years.

Comments: My step-father is Richard Willis who rode on the Gunston Hall as a passanger to South Korea. Once there he pulled security in Pohand South Korea. He was later discharged from the Navy for wounds from a mortar attack in South Korea. Outstanding man who is still around so if anyone knows him and would like to contact him then please let me know. I am currently serving in Korea and tomorrow I will go to where my step father was stationed to visit, take pictures and videos for him. No better way to honor a veterean than to follow in his foot steps.

Comments: I was 11 when the Korean was ended. MY brother was 17. One year away from being drafted. The war ended and it was as if it never existed. I started my radio show on kcbq 1170 in san diego in aug of o8. I have had a Guadacanal survivor and a bataan death march survivor talk. The public response was great. Our youth should be advised of the deaths and suffering of our military for the sake of freedon. These sacrificed are being forgotten. I want to have a korean veteran who saw the battles and if possible a POW to tell the youth what happened. Please call any time of day or night.

MY FATHER SERVED ABOARD THE GUNSTON HALL LSD 5

Comments: My father was Bernard M Chiasson and he searved aboard the Gunston Hall during the Korean War. His rate was FT 1. He passed up several purple hearts because, in his estimation, the Marines he was rescuing or shipping deserved it more than he did. "They have given an ultimate sacrifice, I am just a sailor with a scratch"

My father died on September 16, 2002. He is buried at Saint Joseph's Cemetary in Fitchburg Ma. He receive full military honors and is interred beside my mother who had passed away 8 yeqrs before.

My Father is a hero to us, his sons, and to his grandchildren. My son is becoming a Seebee and I was in the Naval Academy. Many of my uncles were in both the Navy or the Marine corps during WWII.

My Father would be proud of his grandson carrying on the Navy tradition for the fourth generation.
