Comments: I came aboard fresh from Mk37 gunfire control school in February 1958. Made the WESTPAC cruise that year. Great duty even though I was seasick for the first few months aboard; useless to anyone until I was taken over on the beach in Yokuska, Japan, got drunk and stayed in my bunk for ten days when we got to Okinawa. Never sick after that, Thank the Lord!

Comments: We earned 5 battle stars in Korea. I remember a time that we refulled from a tanker and whe finished pull away to sharp and did all kinds of damage to her. Yet another time we craked in a typhone and had to have a 24hr. buket crew. The pumps could not handle all the water. Whe the storm was over wwe headed for Sasabo Japan for repairs. When we came home and stoped off in Pearl Harbor the Captain could not get us any fresh food. I had 3 friends from boot camp that were cook in Pearl and they gave us a 3/4ton truck with big side boardon it. we I went back to the ship with that loaded with food. I look back on those day and find that I overall I had a good time & it was good for me.

Comments: I'm looking information about my father, George Seaver, who , i believed, served on U.S.S. Ohare around 1972 the time he was on board the ship. She had met my mother during that time when the ship stationed in subic, Philippines. I have no information except the above. I was born on Oct. 16, the following year 1973. My mother lost all contacts with him. I know very much that he wants to meet me so much as i do to him.

Please let me know if you have any information or contact about my father. you can e-mail me at naldizon@yahoo.com.ph. Thank you!!

Comments: My father sailed on the USS Fechteler from 1955 -1957. I would be interested in hearing from anyone who new my Dad. He was a MMC, Chief Petty Officer I believe in the forward engine room. It was the ship he retired from in 1957 after over twenty years in the Navy. Unfortunately Dad passed away this past November, he will be missed. I am researching his Navy career and planning on writing a book about a small part of that career. From 1936 - 1941, just prior to Pearl Harbor he played Football and Baseball for the Battleship California (BB44). Back then all of the battleships had teams and they played regular seasons and it was a big deal. I am trying to find as much information on that period as possible. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I served on the USS Fechtler during 1951 and 1952 trips to Korean waters
under the auspices and command of Task Force 77. The Fechtler and other
destroyers like her offered the carriers and crusiers and the
occassional battleship which graced us with its presence , primary
protection from submarine attacks, and had there been air attacks. The
men of the destroyers could and would have mounted a formidible anti
aircraft barrage in defence of their fellow soldiers, sailors, marines,
and most esepecially the carrier pilots whoese protection was formost on
their minds, So if they are any of the brave men who served with me on
the Fecthler or some of the other screenimg destroyeres. let us hear
from you and perhaps renew once fond acquaintaince.

I traveled again with equally brave shipmates headed to Korea 1993 this
time aboard the USS Stembel and again to join up with Jehovah in Task
Force 77. When we stopped in Hawaii to refuel, I received orders to
transfer to the USS Nicholas, A Destroyer Escort
who was then making plans to set sail for the Marshall Islands where to
take part in
Atom and Hydrydogen bomb testing. We was there four about three
mounths and participated in about 4 blasts. There were some very fine
people there. I received an honorable discharge when my enlistment
expired in 1954, So if any of you men on the Stemble read this, drop us
a line, I would be plesed to hear from every one of you.,especially from
Honest John Reynolds from Mississippi, David Ritche. from North
Carolina, and Patrick and Leo Kramer from the State of Washington, who
served om the Nicholas.
