Made two trips to Hong Kong, had a great time . I was on the softball team, played first base. I was also on the ship when it got by enemy fire in Wanson harbor. I was on the gun mount just moments before it got hit, the man that relieved me at general quarters did not get hurt. Keywords: |

| WILLIAM B. (BILL) MCIVER wrote on March 17, 2002 City and State: MENDOCINO CA Unit: USS EVERETT PF 8 Service or Relationship: NAVY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I'm Bill McIver. I was a MM3 on the Everett. Boarded her in Hong Kong in 1952. After about six months we left for Sasebo and limped in on one engine. Got 'er fixed up and went to Korean Coast. Spent a lot of time on "fish boat" patrol. I've always thought we were a part of the diversionary force that drew the North Koreans to the west side of the peninsula while the landing at Inchon was being made. I think we were shat at one night when we were patrolling up the northern Korean coast. I went home on emergency leave while the ship was in Sasebo. Returned to the ship in Hong Kong. Was sent back to the states for duty on the USS Colahan DD658. Duty was great in Hong Kong but the old Everett wasn't much of a war ship--at least we snipes had a hellava time keeping her running. Remember we had no water for showers at sea. Hope to hear from you and swap some stories. I was in the Navy from Nov 1950 to Sept 1954. 1st served on the USS Cape Esperance, 1951, the Everett 1952-53 and the USS Colahan DD 658 53 - 54. Bill Keywords: |
