Joined the U.S. Army Air Force in 1946 and spent 3 years occupation in Japan as well as was in the Korean War at the first month of action. Worked up to North Korea and then back to Japan

Keywords: In late 1944, took basic training on Catalina Island in the U.S. Maritime Service under the auspices of the U.S. Coast Guard. Sailed on the Atlantic on A.T.S. Army ships carrying military personnel heading to Europe with German troops going back t - o Europe. Westbound we carried troops with enough points to return and wounded. Later sailed all over the Pacific on a Standard Oil Tanker. On Saipan on VJ Day.

lookin for my dads friends

Comments: Im looking for any information or shipmates who served with my dad during the korean war and was in operation ivy My dad died in 1976 and Im the only son and male relative left in my family. I would love anyones help finding pictures of him or stories. I miss my dad and followed in his steps aboard the USS Ranger. I lost the few photos and his Operation Ivy certificate in a house fire in 1995. please help me if ya can thank you!

Estes In WWII

Comments: My dad, Norman Sr., passed away ten years ago.

He served on the Raymond W. Herndon (APD121) during WWII.

I've been sorting and scanning his old photographs, where I found one of "GC12" moored in a harbor along with a British Battleship.

It will be posted on my website when I'm back in WA. I'd like to know more about the place.

Comments: Was a Radio and Teletype operator on the Estes stationed in Tsingtao while the nationalists and communists were fighting Came home just efore the nationliss were defeated. in October 1948. I'm 77 now and still have fond memories of my service days and the wonderful guys I knew. My memory is kind of bad sometimes and I can't remember names ,,but I can still see lots of faces

Canteen Money

Comments: My hobby is collecting any old or new World Paper Money. Along with the collection are also "Funny Money" items. Two of these items are a 5 cent bill and a 10 cent bill labeled JAPTAN ISLAND. They are both about one dollar size. They have a drawn coconut tree in the center with ENIWETOK underneath it. I have also been to Eniwetok. Each note has at the bottom "FIVE CENTS IN TRADE" AND "TEN CENTS IN TRADE" respectively. On each note where the U.S. notes have the letter in a circle showing where our money was printed, they have a similar symbol with JOINT TASK GROUP - 132.3 - RECREATION COUNCIL - PRINTED ABOARD - USS ESTES agc-12. I thought this might be of interest to you. If you happen to have any like this and have an extra copy, I would appreciate getting it. Both of mine are only in fair condition. Thank you.
