Comments: Looking for anyone who knows are knew my father,I haven't seen or heard from him in forty five years. The Navy has released his records to me, I know he was with Fighter Squadron 23 on the USS Essex.I know he went to the Korean War December 1,1953, if anyone knows him would like to hear from them.

Comments: Looking for inforamtion about my Grandfather, LTJG Joseph Henry Gollner, who was an F4U pilot on the Essex and went MIA 11 Jan 1952. The official report is: Went into diving spiral after takeoff, crashed into the sea, Side Nr. 408, a destroyer and two helos conducted SAR effort, results negative. When he died, my Father was a baby and neither my Father nor I ever had a chance to know him, or even hear much about him. Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

ESSEX Photo Lab

Comments: Would like to contact anyone who remembers the terrible Cougar crash when plane tore off most of left wing hitting fantail. Think the pilot was the skipper of the Cougar squadron??????

Keywords: My nickname was "Pat" and still is. I was AF2 rate in SX photo lab and spent many days shooting "hook skips" with high-speed motion picture camera from port catwalk just forward of the LSO platform when both Cougars and Banshees were landing.

Korea USS Essex VF-871 1952-54

Comments: I was a pilot flying the F4U and F9F-2 during 1952-1954. I was on the USS Essex for two cruises then left Navy to return to college. I graduated from Texas Tech Un. in Feb. 1959 and went to work as a petr. engr. with Sinclair. I retired in 1988 and am living the good life in the Rose capital, Tyler, Tx. Comments: Hi everybody I'm a student in Aerospace engineering and I'm looking for some Technical information about the early CV-9 Essex (WWII period): 1) Mk4 Mod5 arresting gear max load and speed 2) early Essex (no catapult) deck lenght and take off run 2) F4U-1 Corsair (early models) max landing speed and min take off speed (without catapults)as specified by operative directives or manuals or pilots suggestions ( any pilot out there?) I thank very much everyone who can give an help!!

Liberty Boats

Comments: I was assigned to # 4 fire room in August of 1959 and worked there untill I transfered to A Division and worked in the disel gang. We maintained the fwd. and aft. emergency diesel generators and the engines on the liberty and life boats. I am interested in hearing from anyone who was aboard from 59- 61.
