Comments: I served on the USS Electron in 1954. The ship alternated between Sasebo and Yokosuka, Japan, but we had a 3 months visit to the Phillipines and a couple of trips to Hong Kong. I have fond memories of this time-- some of the best years of my life. I was an Electronic Technician 3rd class, and specialized in teaching and repairing teletypes.

Comments: I broke my back in April 1955 while serving on a boat crew in Yokosuka. The boot boom cable broke and the boom landed on my head. I went to the hospital and did not return to the Electron. I am making an album of my time in the Navy and do not have a picture of the ship. If any one could help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

John I. Estes

Comments: AKS27 was a converted LST electronic supply and repair ship. Perminately stationed Sasebo and Yokosuka sistership was the Proton.
